    New mirrors day

In fairness, it's more like they're coming alongside on the right in a peloton-like situation at low closing speed. Many if not most of the guys and gals in this group are clearly lifelong roadies with decades of group experience. If it were up to me, we'd ride bike lanes in single file even...

Posing will be the main use around here. More rich old guys on superbikes than you can imagine on our roads. That said, the 2-3 dozen I've ridden with on local group rides are significantly better climbers than I am, and some are even older! I definitely need a motor to keep up on the bigger...

Watching the peloton - Professional Road Racing thread 2026

Commentator Vendervelde kept saying that Seixas shouldn't have been pulling turns with Pogi once the 2 of them were way out front. Bob Roll wasn't so sure. Thoughts? Have to wonder if Pogi was just testing Seixas for future reference before riding away on the last climb.

New brakes day! Some photos from a 12 mi test of my brand new brakes straight from the LBS in Encinitas. Normally avoid this area like the plague on Saturday mornings, but there are quite a few blocks with 12-16% grades within 3 mi of the shop. So far, very pleased with this total all-Shimano...

    New mirrors day

I've had very good luck with my Mirrycle bar-end mirror, and that's what I'll add on the right if and when the time comes. But my offroad riding generally doesn't involve the tight places and mirror-brush encounters yours do.

    New mirrors day

Seriously considering adding a right bar-end mirror — but more to keep an eye on companions behind me than on traffic. Won't ride without a left mirror. Even travel with one that clips onto my glasses when bike rentals might be involved. A left mirror pretty much covers my needs in traffic...

Mens Liege Bastogne Liege just finished. What a race! Came in at ~40 km to go, never a dull moment thereafter. Can't wait to watch the full replay.

Raising Handlebars to Ease Hand Pressure

Welcome aboard! Have never changed a bar, so no help there. But I have gotten some relief with stem adjustments on my commuter. Given that the best configuration for your wife may not be what you expect, an adjustable stem sounds like good insurance to me. Weight's not a big concern on the...

    tire pressure

If 30 psi isn't too far below the minimum pressure on the sidewall, it's probably OK. But if you run tubed tires well below the minimum, you're flirting with pinch flats.

    TQ V04 Color Display

Agree, the perfect readability is the best thing about my top tube display. Not sure how they do it, but significantly easier to read than the Wahoo and vastly easier than my phone screen in bright sun.

    tire pressure

These online pressure calculators are valuable tools. But while the OP wades through them, the simplest and safest approach is to read the min and max pressures directly off the tire sidewall and start with a pressure in between. Like the OP perhaps, I ride my commuter mostly on smooth to rough...

    TQ V04 Color Display

Nice new display on that Pinarello! @Chazmo , my Vado SL has a similar color top tube display called a TCU. I was skeptical about the location and small size at first, but now I'm a big TCU fan. Customizable startup page. Easily readable in all lighting conditions. At least 5 pages easily...

Lady cyclist killed in Davis involving juvenile on ebike...on the bike path.

Interesting phenomenon from a sociological point of view — and one that clearly predates the widespread prevalence of ebikes. Did anyone see an ebike in this footage? This is basically a flash mob on 2 wheels — no doubt "radicalized" and organized on internet sites where these young people hang...

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

Could've used English subtitles to follow what he was saying, but pretty interesting to hear his revised take on ebikes after riding this one. Nothing that we haven't heard or said ourselves here, of course. But he comes at it as a serious roadie who's finally seeing what an ebike might be good...

San Clemente Island is a naval base. The east end of Santa Catalina is developed private land with houses, condos, and businesses. The islands are otherwise protected within the Channel Islands National Park. I've taken ferries from Ventura Harbor to Santa Cruz Island and from Long Beach Harbor...

2026 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

If you mean in Malibu and Altadena, still in progress. Sometimes watch LA news and often see stories of this or that group upset with the clean up, the permitting, the delays, the new designs, and on and on. The wisdom of rebuilding there seldom comes up now. The topographic and atmospheric...

2026 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Yes, the cold California Current (blue on map below) keeps heading south below Point Conception (boundary between Central and Southern California), thus bypassing the Southern California Bight (broad coastline curvature on map). This sets up the red California Counter Current, which brings us...
