Lady cyclist killed in Davis involving juvenile on ebike...on the bike path.

Thanks for all the detail! We may use music a little differently in this context. I could really use [go back to the beginning] and [go back one song]. My original OpenRun (not the OpenRun 2) doesn't have these options. It interprets a triple click as either a single or a double click depending...

Interesting option. My only complaint about the regular OpenRun headset (version 1) is the very limited playback control — nothing but pause and skip to next song. Are the earbuds any better in that regard?

    Specialized App not recording ride

Interesting. Could the Specialized app have somehow lost its permission to use location?

    Specialized App not recording ride

A very similar thing happened to my previously flawless Specialized app (latest version). Turned out, the GPS service on my Android phone somehow got turned off at the photo stop where all GPS-related recording had abruptly ended. Data that the app gets directly from my Vado SL 1 via Bluetooth...

I think you'd enjoy them — and not just on the bike. Sound quality's surprisingly good. I also like to get more exercise out of dog walks by stepping in time to carefully chosen music. With BCEs at even moderate volume, I can do that and still enjoy the sounds of nature. And since my wife...

Lady cyclist killed in Davis involving juvenile on ebike...on the bike path.

Big fan of bone conduction earphones (BCEs). I'm lucky to have some very low-traffic "safe havens" near home where it's reasonable to ride to music with BCEs at low volume. Plenty of ambient sound audibility. Otherwise never listen on the bike. I also wear my BCEs when I'm expecting an...

@RabH , did you have to ride far on the pavers seen in the first of the snack break photos?

In the US, we're taught from an early age that it's always Canada's fault till proven otherwise. Thanks for confirming!

    Just for fun...

Not on the UK TV we watch. Are you saying that screenwriters are favoring drama over reality? Shocking!

Sorry, just watched your piston cleaning link. EXTREMELY helpful — hopefully no more lazy seals for me!

2026 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Recurring dirt accumulation on the exposed part of one (steel) rear piston definitely played a big role in my case. The pads themselves were never an issue. Among other things, hoping the new ceramic pistons will be less prone to gathering dirt.

Is there some kind of brake virus going around now? Just did a total brake upgrade on my Vado SL for a recurring drag in the rear.

    Just for fun...

    Just disappointed that the US got so few mentions and puzzled that the UK and Poland got none. You should see how people talk to each other in UK murder mysteries! :^}

Good news! Looks like Matteo Jorgenson's back on the mend after his nasty high-speed crash in Amstel Gold 2026.

    TQ V04 Color Display

Given your Pinarello's overall cool, surprised that the remote doesn't do more. My Vado SL 1 5.0 has a handy 3-button remote with 1 button to scroll display screens and 2 to adjust assist and toggle MicroTune and walking modes — all very useful functionalities in the saddle. Maybe Pinarello...

Raising Handlebars to Ease Hand Pressure

I also tend to pre-medicate for rides likely to piss off my knees. Usually some combo of topical Voltaren and oral naprosyn ± acetaminophen. Haven't looked at the literature, but the anti-inflammatory part makes some medical sense. Anecdotally, my knees seem happier with this whole cycling...

    helmet search bike

The OP wants head and eye protection. I like the way you separate these duties so that helmet and eye protection can be optimized separately. Hence back to the prior suggestion to prioritize safety and let the Virginia Tech test results drive the helmet purchase. Lots of choice — even among...

    New mirrors day

Yes, the latter describes the group road rides I'm referring to. They never go offroad and rarely use protected bikeways. The bike infrastructure's generally good to excellent here, but I view most of the bike lanes as single-file affairs. Not everyone agrees — including my friend, neighbor...

Right you are! Cheaper than I thought. Looks great for still air and headwinds. Wonder how it rides in a significant crosswind?
