    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

Anyone know the ballpark efficiency (Power out/Power in) of the TQ40. I read that the downside of the Harmonic Drive is efficiency at the lower end of the range. Thanks to TRW I understand the TQ motor is unique and curious to learn if the benefits of the TQ come with a cost of lower...

Thanks, I was wondering if there was a flexible element and if so the long term durability of that.

Ran across the following video, helped me better understand how a Harmonic Drive works .https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlnNj9F37MA

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

Thanks, very helpful. I am able to grind up 10% grades at 5mph which implies I am capable of putting out~200W. So sounds like with a X-20 bike like the Addict eRide I should be able to manage 10% grades no problem as long as I maintain some speed. That clears up a concern I had about getting...

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

Very interesting. So in practice does this mean that if you have speed (>8mph) when approaching a steep grade (10% grade) and the rider has the ability to output 150W that the Mahle will be able to match that 150w to provide the ~300W required to maintain the speed up the grade?

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

In Yako's recent review , he mentioned that in order to make the TQ40 narrow enough to fit a standard bottom bracket housing, that TQ replaced one of the mechanical clutches with a software clutch. That also sounds ingenious although I am not sure how that actually works?

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

Yes it was your reviews of the Gain/ X20 that convinced me (almost) to pull the trigger on the Addict eRide. The lingering concern was battery range (236whr for the Addict) and hill climbing assist. Its mountainous where I live and 10+miles climbs of 6-8%+ are common . I can still crank up...

Wow, that's amazing. TQ doesn't publish official sound level but what I have read is ~50dB at riders ear level under moderate load, about the same as X-20.

Living in the mountains its pretty much up and down for me, and I can certainly tell the difference when I switch from my 14.5lb Emonda to my older 18lb Colnago.

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

Yes, a short ride on a friends Pinarello with HPR50. Bike weighs ~28lbs and it felt heavy, would not want to ride it far without assist. Motor noise was noticeable and assist was not exactly natural (sort of on or off, never just right) , but the motor settings were not tuned for me. What I...

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

Yako; thanks for the comments and looking forward to your review on your channel. I am super curious to hear your impression of the TQ HPR40 vs the X-20 for a road bike. I was about to pull the trigger on an Addict eRide 10 but now wondering if I should wait until TQ40 equipped bikes are...

a very brief review of a new bike (scott addict rc eride)

Thanks. I have ridden mid drive e bikes but never a hub drive. Didn't think a hub drive could provide a natural assist feel until seeing reviews for bikes with the X-20 drive system. Wish I had a chance to try hub drive but my options are limited where I live...

a very brief review of a new bike (scott addict rc eride)

I understand the drives are very different, but does it really matter to the rider or do they "taste" the same? Interesting. First reviews of the Canyon with HRP40 will be coming out. They claim zero drag, hopefully that is more than marketing hype.

a very brief review of a new bike (scott addict rc eride)

Yea, a weight weenie, but only to the point where cost becomes absurd. The question I have is the TQ HRP40 a significantly better drive system than the Mahle X-20 in terms of natural assist, range, noise, etc.

a very brief review of a new bike (scott addict rc eride)

I have been considering purchasing Addict eRide 10 but heard recently that Scott will be introducing (soon) a new road bike using the TQ HRP40 mid drive, similar to the new Canyon OnFly sub 10. Anyone have any details and thoughts on is it worth waiting for a mid drive version (most likely will...
