YouTube documentary: The Extraordinary Journey of the Bicycle

:) Well, it was too much for me on one of those original, heavy, fatties, Chris. Like the Jeep Wrangler I used to own, I really wanted to love it. But no...

Hey, Rás, what’s that thing hanging down from your front fender?

YouTube documentary: The Extraordinary Journey of the Bicycle

👍 I think this qualifies as the progenitor, then. I’m hazy on when I rode the Surly in Old Orchard Beach, Maine… There were one or two other brands out there at the time, but the Surly was the only one I got my hands on. It surly (misspelling intended :)) was a small market at that time...

YouTube documentary: The Extraordinary Journey of the Bicycle

Fantastic! All I can say is WOW. My friend did some research and it looks like this “Artic” bike was around 2004… I’m feel like I tried a Surly or something fatty before that, but it’s too long ago to be sure. All I remember is that it was so cool and so impossible for me.

    Lectric Trike2 750 throttle problem

Well, that’s great, Tom. Certainly if you move back to a bicycle you have a ton of choices. 20” fat-tire bikes are popular these days, and Lectric makes some of them. They are (relatively) easy to manipulate and handle (in general), especially the folding ones as they are all step-through...

Holy moly. That’s cool, Base! Any idea what year that’s from?

YouTube documentary: The Extraordinary Journey of the Bicycle

Anyone know when the first fat-tire bikes came out (unassisted, that is). My first time on one was in the early oughts. It was unrideable for me. That’s one of the reasons I was so excited to get an e-fatty twenty years later! :)

Anyone prefer a fixed single-speed ebike?

Probably not for most of the (avid) riders here, I’m sure. But, probably has its place in an urban, mostly flat environment.

    Lectric Trike2 750 throttle problem

That’s the right answer. Take your time. Chris’ recommendation for the Velotric is a really good idea if you need an alternative. Here’s the direct link to it. Not sure if it’s the same riding style (upright, etc) that you’re looking for. I haven’t heard any invective about Velotric’s CS...

Rad Power Bikes may close soon

Well, the stock on their site is almost sold out. I was looking at the $1000 RadRover 6+ fatty, and I realized it was unavailable. I hope at least some EBR members took advantage of that price to get a nice bike super-cheap. Maintaining a Rad for the next few years shouldn’t be too...

    Lectric Trike2 750 throttle problem

I was going to suggest Aventon but I don’t think they have a trike. Rad’s out of the game. I’m not sure what to suggest except another Lectric. Find a bike shop that has trikes and can support you. You might have to pay more, but it sounds like it might be worth it.

2026 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Well, I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but have fun! I wouldn’t want to ride with more than 3 or 4 people, but those are probably more technical rides.

    Lectric Trike2 750 throttle problem

You’ve been very dissatisfied. Take the full refund on both bikes and go elsewhere.

    Lectric Trike2 750 throttle problem

Sounds like a crappy situation, Tom. Direct to customer sales don’t always work out, as in your case. I hope things come to a satisfactory conclusion for you soon. As Jeremy mentioned earlier, unfortunately a lot of e-bikes have lousy throttle implementations. I didn’t even know there were...

Another deal I could not pass up on eBay this time

That’s a nice sentiment, us, but I certainly wouldn’t count on any increase in value any time soon if that’s what you mean by “collectible.” For that matter, I’m not sure any modern e-bike will ever be worth much more that was paid for it. Just my $0.02.

Another deal I could not pass up on eBay this time

I’m not sure what there is to be “terrified” about, @gromike . There are lots of Rad bikes out there and keeping this running for a few years should be no problem, I would think. I am speaking from ignorance though as I don’t know how much interchangeability there is among their range of...

Yamaha error 15 and drained batteries

Oh, for sure, check that. Could be bad in both displays given their age. Oh, never mind. I see you already checked it.

2026 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

I wonder if the moon’s positioning as a “supermoon” (closest to earth) has as much to do with this as the perihelion (our closest orbit point to the sun)… I think the “king” tide was described as a lunar event somewhere, but perihelion would seem more likely as cause to me.

    Cable actuated hydraulic caliper upgrade

Now that’s cool. I hadn’t even thought of that use case, PedalUma. Absolutely right. Do they make BMX bikes with disc brakes these days? I must admit, I am way out of touch. My kids were riding BMX bikes 30 years ago… That’s the last interest I had.

Hey any of our coastal friends got any picture(s) of the results of this king tide? I hear Marin is getting hammered (@PedalUma )… Any US east coasters by the water? How about our European contingent? Are you guys affected by these tidal surge(s)?
