Well, the Garmin can actually get the correct time without the phone but you have to enable the GPS by starting a GPS activity like a walk or a run and it will sync to the satellite. I don't have any experience with Apple watches, so I don't know how they work. But whatever floats your boat...

One other cool thing that my watch does that you might appreciate since you travel a lot: It automatically adjusts to the local timezone. So when I touchdown in a new city and enable the radio on my phone, the watch recognizes the location and shows the correct time.

Lots of things. It will count your steps. Mine will measure blood oxygen level. It measures elevation. It has a GPS to log runs and rides. It will show texts or caller ID of incoming messages and phone calls when your phone is in your pocket. Some even have a microphone and speaker and can...

These days, everyone wears a smart watch. Even in a business suit. My Garmin Fenix looks good enough for the office. My boss's boss even has the same watch.

    My first Mid Drive

I think that the suspension seatpost would be a lot more useful than a dropper on that bike.

    Winter Sucks

I live in the Southern California mountains. We got a bunch of snow and the power has been out since Tuesday night. They are saying it will be restored tomorrow morning around 1:30AM. I am up at my work apartment in San Jose and my wife is pissed that I am not home suffering with her. This is...

    Winter Sucks

The Homewoods and Hamptons don't actually have a restaurant. Just a breakfast area where they set out coffee, juices, bread for toasting, fruit, cereal, a waffle machine, and some serving trays with eggs, bacon or sausage, etc. It isn't very good. The Embassys have cooks that will make omelets...

    Winter Sucks

Every Homewood Suites and every Hampton Inn offers a free breakfast included. It's not a good breakfast, but these chains are all over the country and in many small towns. Every Embassy Suites offers a free made to order breakfast. My points are with Hilton, but I have stayed at many Marriot...

This is a bunch of nonsense. I am a very picky eater and there are a lot of things I won't eat. I have travelled the world for work and have always been able to find places with food I could eat. Singapore was difficult, but I didn't starve there. Trying a Mexican restaurant in Australia was a...

The bike without the Grin kit was probably closer to $3K. Still $2K is not bad at all for the complete bike if you can ignore the gaudy blue cable housing.

Also, I paid as much for my wife's Brompton Electric and I hate that bike.

It's always more to build from a frame than buy a complete bike. I knew what I was signing up for when I started the project.

I thought British humor was supposed to be dry and sarcastic. MTA: Try this "Jeremy, you totally get me. You are a brother from another mother. Speaking of which, remember that time you tried my mother's cooking? Good times!"

    Tern GSD - Safety Camera - 360 Camera (insta360/DJI/GoPro) OR Cylciq/similar?

I have had my share of close calls riding my bike. I still don't think it would be worth the hassle to ride with a camera. That said, I just bought Viofo dash cams for my wife and myself for our cars. My wife was in a fender bender where someone tail ended her at a stop sign a few months ago...

My Disc Trucker has a Grin GMAC kit on it. Not a single component on that bike could be considered cheap or low quality. I built it up from a frame like you just did (I went with black cable housing so it looks better, though :)). I probably have $4000-$5000 invested in it. Hub motors have a bad...

I am afraid there is no help for you then. Charcoal flavored coffee from Starbucks is a safe haven? Really?

Something is missing from the translation. Starve, meaning you can't find anything to eat? Or starve meaning you are craving it? Because it is pretty easy to find just about anything you want in the United States. Most American barbecue restaurants even feature kielbasa sausages on the menu...

It's good question. I am embarrassed to say I don't. But hopefully the ones I have (KMC, I think) will get me home. I don't have any 12 speed drive trains at the moment. But I keep a separate kit on each bike, so each one can be customized. MTA: I just checked and I'm good: "Compatible with...

Perhaps, but you also like hot drinks made from fermented black bread and ride your bike in blizzards. ;) My mother's parents were from England. I can live without the liver and onions and boiled meat. That said, I didn't have any trouble finding good food on my one visit to the UK. It's...
