Yes, this is not Bafang controller. This is VESC based high performance controller with more power and opportunity to use higher voltage for Bafang M620 motor. I do not know if it is for CANbus or UART version of Bafang M620 though. Maybe it works with both. It also has a dedicated website...

I am fine with the rotary shifter. It has some freeplay but it works and you do not need to deal with oil so it is easier to install and maintain than Kindernay shifter (besides the cable lines are more rigid than hydraulic lines and require more careful routing and avoiding sharp turns).

The teeth look OK. It is hard to tell looking on this picture if there is an issue somewhere else. You basically need to actuate those things and see if those things move freely full stroke. Remove those fingers out of the housing too. There are plastic plungers with seals inside, inspect those...
