    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

    A rider like you won't need assist on every climb, but embrace it when you do. Put out as much power as you want at that point in the ride and let the motor do the rest. A couple of things to recalibrate in going electric... 1. On a mid-drive, the optimal gearing is the one that strikes the...

    Ha! Knew she'd see the wisdom of it right away. As for you, well, sacrifices in the name of marital cycling harmony must sometimes be made. ;^}

    VADO 2026?

    Nice-looking bike. Those who know the full-power Vado, after reading the article, does it sound like a good step forward? I especially enjoyed the review. Clearly written by someone who knows ebikes and understands the practicalities at rider level. My one quibble: Hub-drives don't use...

    2026 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

    Sounds like a fabulous trip! I know those hill debates all too well. You're kinda stuck there in the EU, but there's a fix for this problem back in the US: Make sure your balking partner has way more power than you do. Used to get in big trouble with the missus for taking her on her idea of...

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

    I was a fairly strong rider when I drifted away from cycling in my 50s and a fairly weak rider when ebikes and a move to SoCal lured me back at age 74. Over 3 years and 6,500 mi later, exclusively on ebikes, I'm a MUCH stronger rider than when I restarted. Though I'm still not as strong as the...

    Still need the max insertable post length to figure that out, as I can only clamp completely above or below the dropper seal collar. And I'm procrastinating on making the measurement for fear of dropping that loose seatpost binder thingy down the seat tube when I remove the existing post. (We...

    Q: Will I still be able to clamp my bike to my Park Tool work stand by the seat post with a dropper installed? Between a low back that really doesn't like to work bent over and a mid-drive that doesn't move the chain when pedaled backwards, I really need to work on my bike on the stand —...

    Watching the peloton - Professional Road Racing thread 2026

    Gee, thanks! Just when I was patting myself on the back for spending maybe a quarter of today's 15-mile ride at around 200W — not all at once, of course. At here he was cruising at 463W after a brutal 200 km.

    But think of all the time you got to shake your fist at the screen and scream, "Get it together, guys!". That's pretty exciting, too. ;^}

    A team of astronomers working with the James Webb Space Telescope has just identified Pogi's home planet. It's Zargon IV, where riding away from Earthlings at 78 km out is just what one does. He's becoming quite the showman, and I'm all for it. A genuinely likable guy. Announcers keep saying...

    Thanks! Good pickup on the saddle bag. Yes, it's the old cascading expenditures thing that bicycles are so good at: Replace one thing, then get stuck buying 3 more just to make it work. The stock SL seatpost has a 21 mm offset, so good there.

    Thanks for all that effort! Agree that I don’t need top of the line. The KS EXAform is apparently a lower-quality version of the KS eTen. My friend Gary at the LBS spent a good 30 minutes looking online for droppers of various kinds that might work. The SL's 27.2 mm seat tube ID eliminated many...

    Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

    Many say it's not workable in traffic. My mechanic says it might be. The 27.2 x 410 mm KS eTen with lever and 100 mm of travel may be too long. We'll see. A dropper cable would have to enter my SL 1 frame via one of the side ports at the top of the down tube, but neither has room for an extra...

    Fox Transfer mechanical dropper out on the SL 1 This dropper requires a cable connection inside the seat tube. And as @Stefan Mikes predicted, my LBS gurus said there's go way to get a cable there on this bike. It's an authorized Specialized dealer. Too bad — the Transfer would've been perfect...
