    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

Congrats on your decision! We expect a full report when you've had some time on it. Any idea when that might be?

    New California Senate Bill 1167

The manufacturers and dealers have only themselves to blame for that. They blatantly defied existing laws, sold lots of illegal bikes that should never have been in the hands of 14 year-old males, and now we all have to deal with the backlash.

    New California Senate Bill 1167

Lots of so-called "Class 3" ebikes are sold in SoCal with throttles — which of course puts them outside the class system defining legal ebikes. These can easily reach the full 28 mph before the motor cuts out.

    New California Senate Bill 1167

Good summary. Just want to repeat that the bill requiring registration and licensing of Class 2 and 3 ebikes has not yet come to vote. Doubt it will pass. Don't agree with the bill's approach but do agree with its goal: Bicyclists of all kinds need to be more accountable for their actions. That...

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

A few days ago, the missus and I stopped at North Ponto Beach just to visit with the ocean. Always time well spent. Came across this beautiful restoration on our way home through the South Carlsbad State Beach Campground. SoCal car culture is alive and well here. The campground sits on the...

Watching the peloton - Professional Road Racing thread 2026

Really liking the winter kit colors I'm seeing in Paris Nice 2026, starting with Visma yellow. I happen to be partial to yellow. That deep cape honeysuckle orange behind the bike is another fave. So naturally, I'm liking those deep orange Ineos rain jackets. (But don't like their pale orange...

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

Agree. Tons of roadies out and about every day here in coastal SoCal. And in my 3.5 years and 6,500 mi here, I have yet to have a negative encounter with one while on my bike. Occasionally join an informal Wednesday morning road ride out of Encinitas. Nearly all are card-carrying roadies, but...

Help deciding when to switch to an ebike?

This GCN video goes straight to the heart of the OP's question. Don't be put off by the click-bait title.

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

Three more interesting takes on the Canyon Endurace ONFLY and its hpr40 motor. Don't be put off by the click-bait title. I can relate to most of the points on my heavier hybrid Vado SL 1 — which on pavement very roughly approximates a low-power e-road bike in some respects. Interestingly...

Of course it was sent by a woman. They were afraid of the competition.

Very impressed that the Paris Nice Stage 6 winner Harold Tejada managed to do so after a bike change only 15 12 km out.

Sure hope he doesn't end up on the same team with either Pogi or Jonas. Want to see all 3 go at it.

NBC's Beyond the Podium series has been hit and miss for me. But this is a good one. If Roll's right, we could be in for one heck of a TdF.

Watching the peloton - Professional Road Racing thread 2026

Have really enjoyed all 5 raced stages in Paris Nice 2026 with 3 more to go. Especially through the extended highlights from this @LeTourDeFrance YouTube channel: They claim to be the official TdF channel. An ASO outlet?

Lady cyclist killed in Davis involving juvenile on ebike...on the bike path.

Eddie van Halen? Can't say that I've heard a lot of his music, and probably not his best. But if his work on Thriller is any guide, I'd say that he was a very talented guitarist. As I recall, loved his fills and the way he kept his leads connected to the music before and after. That's certainly...

    Just for fun...

Hit me as I headed to the coffee maker for my frequent afternoon fix: At some point in human evolution, you have to mix in dogs and caffeine to make further progress. We're there now, but apparently still short the ingredient needed to keep us from self-extinction.

Nah, not my cup of tea. I like my rock with a good dose of musicianship. Plenty of that out there if you look for it. Top 40 charts generally aren't good places to look. By themselves, shredding guitar solos are not evidence of musicianship.

Let's not get too hung up on absolute speeds. Plenty of public infrastructure around here where even 10 mph is too fast for conditions — the conditions including most importantly the presence of oblivious motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, kids, and dogs. You can't go by how these other users...
