    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

So you were saving yourself on the way to the top to pace them on the way home? Good a way as any to feed your stated need for speed. When I rejoined the local Wednesday road ride last week, after many months away, I also rode off the back most of the way, mostly in OFF and ECO. And I was the...

    Just for fun...

No, no, no offense! I just couldn't come up with a reasonably clean response and had to call in backup. As for the Easter egg hunt sign itself, soooooo many questions....

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

I'm with you on the water. Not complaining, mind you, just curious. Grateful every day that I ended up living 5 minutes from the surf by bike — especially in this mild Mediterranean climate.

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

A tangential question on brake squealing, please: My SL's brakes normally don't squeal. But if I stop at a beach where the surf's only meters away and stay there for 5+ minutes, they squeal briefly on the way back to the Coast Highway. Then silence till the next beach stop. Never anything...

    Just for fun...

No, no, just thought the material called for a punster of the highest skill. I had lots of comebacks — all highly inappropriate for a family-friendly ebike forum. All I can say is, they used to teach spelling and proofreading for a reason.

    Signs of Spring

Didn't understand this week's record heat in SoCal. Clearly not a typical Santa Ana event, and it's all over the US southwest! Now I see that it's a highly anomalous heat dome fueled in part by an atmospheric river at its northern edge. You can't make this stuff up...

I think it best to let @DaveMatthews handle this one.

Per GCN, record crowds at Strade Bianche this year — in part due to what they're calling the Pogacar Effect. Given that several UK cyclists have been knighted, sainthood for Pogi seems perfectly reasonable. If the Pope's a cycling fan, not so far-fetched.

    Signs of Spring

I see that SoCal is all red, and that's reflected in the coastal 7-day forecast below. Those upper 70s and 80s are unseasonably warm even by late summer standards, so NOT a sign of spring here. Looking at the regional pressure and air flow patterns in the Windy app, no idea where all this...

The flats do have their charms— even in fitness riding. Gobbling up the road in front of you with no wind or slope to help or hurt your effort can be very satisfying. Adding motor assist just ups the ground speed, which generally only adds to the fun.

2026 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Boy, that's a big adjustment! Must be really annoying to hold back when you're used to putting out 220W. Good thing ebikes came along to help you adapt to your new reality in the hilly SF Bay Area. Otherwise, you'd be stuck on the flats, and not much flat to be had there.

Fabulous SF bike ride for you, and for me, a great ride down memory lane from more decades ago than I care to admit. Loved the commentary. I'm sure you have a backlog of photos to tell us about.

    Signs of Spring

Time to wake up this thread for 2026. For our more northern members, there's hope! Between our unseasonably wet November and December and our unseasonably warm January through present, the flowers here in coastal San Diego County are off to a strong start a week ahead of astronomical spring...

Please elaborate. Not familiar with that episode. Respect is something we could use a lot more of in every part of life these days.

My 2020 Creo Expert with 20K road miles, its been a great bike. Is it worth it to upgrade to 2025 Expert?

Oh, one other thing: We have several current threads on the lastest lightweight, low-power e-road bikes like the Canyon Endurace ONFLY among others. Use the forum seach function with "hpr40" or "hpr50" to find them, as these TQ motors tend to figure prominently in the discussions.

My 2020 Creo Expert with 20K road miles, its been a great bike. Is it worth it to upgrade to 2025 Expert?

Welcome aboard! Sorry, can't help with your question. I ride an SL 1 with the same motor you have. But with 20k of road miles under your belt, we'd love to see your bike and the places you ride. My 3 favorite forum threads are the ones for sharing ride photos...

    New California Senate Bill 1167

On that we agree. For the last year or so, Carlsbad police have been activately confiscating Surrons and the like ridden on public infrastructure. And I think it's had a positive effect. But I still see a lot of teen males on less obviously illegal machines doing wheelies and other stupid stuff...

Same variability here. In maybe 2,000 mi of coast riding in San Diego County, I can only remember 2-3 steady headwinds stiff enough to wear me down on my SL. All were around big winter storms off the Pacific. Wind's seldom a factor on inland hill rides here. That includes the northerly and...

Jonas after final Stage 8 of Paris Nice: Very classy. So happy for him after a rough 2 years. Struck by how often I hear big-name pro cyclists say that some competitor was stronger that day and deserved to win. Don't follow other sports. Is that as common outside cycling?
