Watching the peloton - Professional Road Racing thread 2026

Thanks! During races, do the riders themselves use their own power figures for anything else besides following DS orders?

Don't recall hearing Godon's name before this year, and now he's won stages in Paris Nice and Volta Catalunya. Looked very strong at the finish today Seems like an interesting guy as well.

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

You're wise not to get too worked up till you have a firm diagnosis. These things can be hard to pin down. As a retired MD with some major adventures of my own, just want to remind you that laughter really is the best medicine. Realistically, you also end up getting better care as a joker than...

Volta Catalunya Stage 1 done. Worth watching just for the spectacular coastal scenery. I came in at 40 km out. Not much action till final sprint. Winner said last 50 m felt like an hour. I like this guy.

Q1. How are they able to show a rider's power in real time on TV? Telemetry? Estimate calculated from speed, grade, and wind? If calculated, you'd also need the bike's tire Crr and system (rider+bike) mass and CdA. Seems like a lot of unknowables. Q2. Do the bikes actually raced even have...

Odd mapping omission in Specialized app [SOLVED]

Thanks! Fits the observations. I've now done all the things Samsung said to do to keep the S25 from dropping its GPS link. We'll see if it happens again.

Volta Catalunya starts tomorrow. Bob Roll says he'll be watching it for intel on the TdF in July. Good enough for me.

Help deciding when to switch to an ebike?

Absolutely! First and foremost in my mind, a well-designed torque- or power-sensing ebike is an option-maker. And it does that largely by removing barriers and giving the rider lots of control. This is true even on my low-power, low-torque Vado SL 1. Motor on or off? My call. I always pedal...

Odd mapping omission in Specialized app [SOLVED]

The good news: You don't have to get it for others like me to find it interesting or useful.

Odd mapping omission in Specialized app [SOLVED]

Interesting thought. Wouldn't have guessed poor coverage where the map trace ended. Wide open area with lots of homes and businesses nearby. Besides, I record all rides and ride near that spot often. Never a problem before yesterday. Haven't yet ruled out a chance encounter with a passing...

Odd mapping omission in Specialized app [SOLVED]

I have the S25 Ultra now, and the Note20 and Note5 before that. It's a very nice phone all around. I tend to keep phones for years, so buying the very best Android available at the time makes some sense. Only S25 complaint is that the screen's minimum touch sensitivity is still too sensitive...

Odd mapping omission in Specialized app [SOLVED]

Thanks! Come to think of it, I did put on some weight over the holidays. ;^} Looks like my Samsung S25 Ultra may have a problem with dropping GPS links after a recent update. Will try the recommended remedies and see if it happens again.

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

Not questioning that it happens on YT. Just observing that I've never once heard it in real life in my 77 years in the US. Nor on TV or in movies. So no idea where those YouTubers got the idea. How old are they? Could English be a 2nd language for them? Could they be trying to start a new...

Odd mapping omission in Specialized app [SOLVED]

Thanks, makes some sense. The Specialized app on the phone succeeded in collecting the data needed to profile the route. But it could've gotten that from the phone's altimeter. The horizontal coordinates needed to map the route would have to come from GPS. Yes, only the phone, and it was well...

An affectation? Never heard that in the US in real life. Certainly not common practice in daily speech in my experience, but I'm old, and kids do crazy things sometimes.

Odd mapping omission in Specialized app [SOLVED]

Would love some help figuring out a Specialized app (SA) problem first encountered today after 3,500 mi of use. This morning's 17 mi lagoon loop, here perfectly recorded, profiled, and mapped by my handlebar-mounted Wahoo ACE and its phone app. The SA running concurretly in my pocket also...
