Pre-sales advice: Vado 4.0 for Seattle hills?

Here's my vote for a Vado SL 5.0. I'm 75, in reasonable shape, but certainly not an athlete. I live in the Berkeley, CA, hills and ride with ease all over town and through the hills. I've only spent a little time in Seattle, but I think you'd do fine with this bike. I regularly ride up Mt...

Vado SL 5.0 saddle isn't comfortable

I wear padded shorts too, but my butt hurts in way less than 60k. I'm trying adjusting the stock saddle, but haven't ridden yet with the latest adjustment. I'm moving the saddle back and lowering the seat a few millimeters. Stefan said lowering the seat a bit helped him. REI, a US dealer, is...

Vado SL 5.0 saddle isn't comfortable

Stefan.... I assume you mean the padding of your saddle is very firm. I'm beginning to think that the fit/adjustment of the saddle may have as much or more to do with comfort than the firmness of the saddle.

Vado SL 5.0 saddle isn't comfortable

Update: I went to the LBS where I purchased my Vado SL 5.0 to look at alternate saddles. The guy there said that before spending money on a new saddle, I should try moving my current saddle back a few millimeters and tipping it down in front by 1 degree. It helped, but I think I need to move...

Vado SL 5.0 saddle isn't comfortable

Here's a thread about how to mount a Specialized light on a non-SWAT saddle: https://electricbikereview.com/forums/threads/swat-mount-adapter-for-non-swat-saddles.49064/ The SQLabs and Selle saddles look excellent, but I need to find a LBS so that I can try a saddle and return it if it doesn't...

SWAT Mount adapter for non-SWAT saddles

That is very cool and addresses my question in another thread. Thanks!

Vado SL 5.0 saddle isn't comfortable

Thank you for all of the replies! I have to try and find a dealer for SQLabs and Selle saddles. Then again, a different Specialized saddle on which I can mount the taillight might be the solution.

Vado SL 5.0 saddle isn't comfortable

Howie.... which Bontrager saddle did you get? One of my local bike shops has several Bontrager choices.

Vado SL 5.0 saddle isn't comfortable

Yes. I have several pairs of padded bike pants and shorts. The best are Assos Mille GT Bib Shorts -- https://www.assos.com/us/mille-gt-bib-shorts-18257.html

Vado SL 5.0 saddle isn't comfortable

Actually, I'm most interested to know if the Vado SL 5.0 taillight can be mounted on other seats--Specialized or non-Specialized. I wear padded pants which help.

Vado SL 5.0 saddle isn't comfortable

Hi all, After riding over 1,200 miles, I'm finding the saddle isn't comfortable for my butt. My sit bones get sore. (Otherwise, this is a perfect bike and I love every minute that I'm riding.) As you may know, the saddle has a taillight attached to it. I'm wondering if the light can easily...

    New Specialized 2022 Como 3.0

"Enjoy" is the key word! Whether it's a Como or Vado, a 3, 4 or 5 is far less important than just getting out there and riding. Fun.

    New Specialized 2022 Como 3.0

I'm 75 and the Vado SL 5.0 I got last year did the same thing for me--got me riding again and made me feel 20 years younger. (At least until I got off the bike and sat for an hour.:))

Take a look at this kickstand. I have recommended it here before and others have liked it. The link is to an Amazon page. https://a.co/bKhQBI9

Does anyone know what this little plug is?

Here’s a kickstand that I’ve used. I’ve recommended it here before, and others have liked it. Be sure to get the correct size—18mm or 40mm hole distance. BV Adjustable Rear Mount Bicycle Bike Kickstand for 24" - 29" Mountain Bike/Road Bike/BMX/MTB https://a.co/3Xujp9D

Does anyone know what this little plug is?

I lost one or two of those plugs on my Vado SL 5.0. Rider Care send me some replacements. See photo.

    Ok, I get it now...

Hi Joe.... thanks for the seat info. My Vado has a light built into the seat, so I'll have to figure out if I can switch the seat and keep the light. I wouldn't want black either (!), so I was glad mine is silver.

    Ok, I get it now...

May I ask which Bontrager seat you bought and find comfortable? The seat that came on my Vado SL 5.0 isn't bad, but my butt does feel it after a while. I love your enthusiasm for your new bike. My first e-bike was similar to one of the RadPower bikes, with a huge battery, and weighed about 65...

    Cadence question

Shortly after I bought my Vado SL 5.0, I messaged Specialized Support and asked the same question. The reply was this: "If you keep your cadence between 80-90 RPMs and shift gears appropriately, you should get noticeably better range on your bike."

Vado SL feels like a real bike, but seems expensive to this very experienced bike rider. Thoughts? Alternatives?

Hi @Artbarton... Perhaps my experience will be helpful. I bought a Vado SL 5.0 (2021 version) six months ago. I'm 75, in reasonable condition, but hardly an athlete. I had both knees replaced three years ago. I see you are in Marin County, so you will be familiar with Mt. Diablo in Walnut...
