    Bike Modification

It's likely the bikes you're seeing aren't modified e-bikes but rather Surrons, or other high power bikes that are not legal in most locations. These are not legally considered to be e-bikes. Unfortunately, it's these powerful "bikes", mostly in the hands of juveniles, that are causing accidents...

Help deciding when to switch to an ebike?

I actually asked this question in response to a conventional bike rider at the top of a long hill, who said my e-bike was unfair. His reply actually made some sense. He said "It's unfair to me because it diminishes my perception of my own abilities when I see someone older or less fit achieve...

    Battery Storage

Nice bike and welcome to the forum! All good advice above. A lot will depend on where you store the batteries. Temps between 60F and 80F with low humidity are best. Recommended storage charge levels vary by manufacturer, but most suggest between 40 and 60%. Self discharge rates also vary, so...

    11 tooth cog

Probably the best approach. If you haven't worked on a cassette before, there are special tools available to make the process easier and avoid damage: https://www.parktool.com/en-us/category/cassette-freewheel?srsltid=AfmBOorysHosofsIgIU6DRe41pusvnWTDSKP9zsJMai8zRyXp5t75KdF

Working to put GRIN CA3-DPS + External Shunt onto Lectric ONE

FWIW, I find a twist or thumb throttle is great for starting, especially on a hill if you forget to downshift. However, maintaining a constant speed with one of these throttles, even a properly proportioned one, can get uncomfortable after awhile. After just a few minutes, I get cramps in my...

Working to put GRIN CA3-DPS + External Shunt onto Lectric ONE

I'm not sure if Lectric uses a proprietary throttle or not, but most 3 wire Hall sensor throttles operate like this: If you can access the throttle wiring, you may be able to insert a padding resistor in the circuit to get better throttle response. I did this successfully on my Pedego...

Suspension Frame: bearing tool (6902 bearing)

My first thought is to take a caliper gauge to Harbor Freight and check the OD of their sockets. A 3/8" drive socket should be large enough for the press bolt to pass through. Whenever I need meta stock with precise dimensions, I usually go to OnlineMetals.com. 12" is the minimum order and it...

Help deciding when to switch to an ebike?

Just because you ride an e-bike, especially a light weight model, doesn't mean you have to use the assist all the time. Switch it off and get the same workout you're used to. Save the assist for those times when you over do it and need a little help getting back. That "insurance" will keep you...

Lady cyclist killed in Davis involving juvenile on ebike...on the bike path.

I wasn't passing judgement on existing CA laws, I was merely expressing my frustration with what is happening where I live on the east coast. Most recently, the NJ ebike bill just signed into law. Riders of illegal bikes are already breaking these laws and will continue to do so with any new...

Lady cyclist killed in Davis involving juvenile on ebike...on the bike path.

This is almost always true about illegal "ebikes" causing these issues but it makes no difference. As a result, more hate is heaped on ALL ebikes. Their legal status doesn't matter. It won't take many more incidents like this for the Peoples Republic of California to pass more restrictive laws.

    Winter Sucks

Yes, Lobster is liked by many, but not by all. Some say it's an acquired taste. I had a girlfriend that ordered lobster whenever we went out to dinner. I asked her once if she really liked it that much. She said no, she only ordered it to show others how sophisticated she was. Go figure. I'll...

    Winter Sucks

We have lots of them here on the east coast. I pass them on the trail all the time. Rarely on an e-bike though. They don't need one since they have 4 pair of legs.

NSW [Australia] considering plan to halve power and top speed of ebikes as rider dies in collision with garbage truck

What I can't fathom is, in the 1950's and early 60's, NJ, and other states as well, spent millions to remove "traffic circles" as they were called at the time. Traffic congestion and high accident rates were the main reasons. Now, they are spending many millions more to put them back in, and...

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

I'm surprised an "officially known" trail like that would permit a railroad grade crossing without the customary warning signs. The railroads here in the east don't permit such ROW crossings, it's considered trespassing and often prosecuted as such.

NSW [Australia] considering plan to halve power and top speed of ebikes as rider dies in collision with garbage truck

I've long since given up on street riding for a multitude of reasons, including the above. I ride for pleasure, not necessity and watching out for traffic removes all the enjoyment. Unfortunately, this isn't an option for many.

    Winter Sucks

I've been using portable gas generators around the place for decades and they work great for the occasional short term power failure. After a major outage that lasted 7+ days, I got sick of running out to try and find gas, and put in a more permanent system. It's an 11.5KW diesel that I...
