Lady cyclist killed in Davis involving juvenile on ebike...on the bike path.

70 some years ago, when I was in grade school, a classmate had a minibike that he would ride on the street all over the neighborhood. The cops caught up with him one day and put the minibike in the trunk of the police cruiser. They took the kid & bike to the station where he was made to wait in...

Lady cyclist killed in Davis involving juvenile on ebike...on the bike path.

Very profound, except "The Lord" is often the father in the eyes of these kids, and he's the one who bought the kid the Surron in the first place.

Spooked by recent recalls - Are these battery charging cabinets worth the investment?

That's a fair comparison, and the data doesn't lie. But context matters too. Living in a small apartment, the 'risk profile' feels different than in a large house with a detached garage. For those living in confined spaces, with no other alternatives, these charging cabinets might be a viable...

Spooked by recent recalls - Are these battery charging cabinets worth the investment?

An automatic extinguisher is a good idea but what kind do you use? Lithium fires generate their own oxidizer, so CO2 has little effect. The ammo cans are a deterrent at best and hopefully will give me enough time to roll the rig outside. From there, I would just let it burn itself out.

Spooked by recent recalls - Are these battery charging cabinets worth the investment?

Using quality UL batteries and chargers is the best preventative measure you can take, but a charging cabinet is certainly a good idea. Protecting the batteries during storage or transport is also critical. Before I built a charging rig, I used to charge batteries in a fireplace or my wood...

Garmin RearVue 820 Radar Light impressions

I appreciate your ongoing review. I'm considering the RV820, maybe you could answer a few questions I have. Web searches have not revealed many specific answers and hopefully, you could help. 1 - Can the light function be controlled from the unit itself, or does that have to be done via a...

Lady cyclist killed in Davis involving juvenile on ebike...on the bike path.

A decade or so ago, a nearby town was plagued with kids riding ATV's on the street. Laws were passed but mostly ignored. The fix was to impound these $7K+ ATV's until a hefty fine was paid. They were held at the impound yard for 12 months and if unclaimed in that time, they were auctioned off...

    Electric motorcycle

Worst case scenario is, these E-moto's will cause more regulation, which will spill over into the legal e-bike market. I'm already seeing "NO EBIKE" signs popping up on some of the trails I ride.

Bike RADAR - for other bikes

Anyone tried using the Aradar app on an Apple watch with a Garmin Varia? https://aradar-app.com/ It appears to provide audio, haptic and visual alerts, but I'm not sure about light control.

    Signs of Spring

The Big Savage Tunnel on the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) trail opens on March 25th. Always a great sign of spring here in the east. They close off the tunnel portals during the cold winter months to keep frost from damaging the tunnel liner. https://gaptrail.org/amenities/big-savage-tunnel/

    Just for fun...

It's amazing what you can do with one of these sign boards. My wife's uncle owned a hardware store and had one out front along the highway. One day, his brand new Lincoln Town Car was T-boned and totaled by a drunk pulling out of a gas station. The insurance company only offered a little more...

Bike RADAR - for other bikes

The reviews on the Lezyne aren't promising. Not as sensitive as the Garmin and many say, it won't pick up a rear approaching rider on the trail. That would be my primary need.

Bike RADAR - for other bikes

From what I've been able to learn, the radar will simply provide an alert (tone & banner) on the Montana screen via Ant+, not the display produced on an Edge or smartphone. I'm thinking a compatible smartwatch might be the best approach

Bike RADAR - for other bikes

I understand this. I don't have a smartphone or bike computer to pair with this radar unit. I'm trying to find out if I can pair it with my Montana 700i GPS via the Ant+ function. There are mixed opinions on the web as to whether this is possible.

Bike RADAR - for other bikes

I don't have a Garmin Edge, or smartwatch and I carry my smartphone in my pocket. Not sure if these radar products will work for me. There are reports on the web about the 515 being compatible with other Garmin GPS units that have Ant+ functionality. Not sure if I could get it to work with my...
