    "Current-based" cadence-sensing from Ride1up

🍿🍿 :) I've been watching this thread and getting a good chuckle out of many of the comments as well as Ride1Up's marketing statements. The idea that a power (wattage/amps whatever) based cadence sensed PAS setup is somehow new is a bit humorous. This has been the default how a Grin Cycle...

    Tandem E-Bike

If I was seriously considering an eTandem I'd consider modifying a good quality and carefully sized Tandem (in other words pick the right bike and then add the e capability). I'd look seriously at using the new Grin V3 All Axis hub motor, a Superharness and a minimal display. With the built in...

    Winter Sucks

Winona ... in the "banana belt" of Minnesnowta. Here in the "far" north east we've got very little snow cover (less than a foot). Right now it's cold (well below freezing plus the wind) but the next few prospects for moisture are coming as rain ... in February! It is indeed a strange...

To My Fellow Cyclists: Quit the E-Bike Hate [Bicycling.com]

Jeremy, Sometimes you have to be a little quick. I usually open the article in question. Press stop (X) - it's also the page reload button, and then right click in the webpage and open reading mode. This works for most websites. Sometimes the paywall stuff comes up quickly and I might have to...

Caution - 8 year old humor ... If your nose runs and your feet smell - you're built upside down.

    Winter Sucks

Yeah, and from the weather forecast last night the storm is now tracking into the south eastern tip of Newfoundland (Avalon peninsula and the city of St. John's) with 20"/50+cm of snow. There have been way too many 50cm dumps of snow in my region this winter. I'm going to have to look for more...

    Winter Sucks

Here in the far north east we missed out on the storm entirely. It's all passing south of us and out to sea. Nova Scotia however is going to/getting snow from it. This is what winter has been like so far (limited snow and higher temps). It's the other areas in the Martimes (like poor Nova...

    Winter Sucks

I'd love to cycle on those paths/trails in the winter ... nice and smooth (well mostly) but icy surfaces are just fine with studded tires. As for the other posters comments complaining about having to use 2 jerseys in under 65F weather .... just go away.

    I have a greyhound who's also thinking that ... and it's only a balmy -5C here.

    Winter Sucks

How cold have you had the 21700 pack and how much degradation have you seen? I'm riding a Grin 750wh 52v battery with 21700 cells and while I haven't had it out very often below -20C (-4F) I have ridden regularly in -5 to -15C (20-5F) and haven't noticed a big drop (maybe in the 10-15% range)...

    Winter Sucks

Still no real accumlated snow. We're currently getting a snow/rain mix that will turn to straight rain later this afternoon. This is the top end of the huge weather front that's pummeled the east coast and has now mostly gone out to sea. Winter 2024 in NB, warmer, less snow (so far) and no...

    Winter Sucks

My local trails are very wet and sloppy. We had rain/freezing rain/sleet and finally a little snow last night. It's been like this for much of December, a bit warmer than average, not enough snow to properly cover and not cold enough to freeze solid ... so still just a cold sloppy mess with...

How is purely torque-sensing PAS actually implemented?

Like the comment earlier ... there are good and bad cadence based systems. I ride one that ramps power up no matter what the setting, so it's safe and comfortable to ride no matter the cadence level selected. A throttle gvies me instantaneous power, the amount being controlled by my hand. The...
