    A poorly adjusted crescent wrench (adjustable jaw) will slip and round over the nut. A pipe wrench, while unorthodox, will grip like a monster and not slip at all.

    In the vintage tool world, that style is known as a bicycle wrench, the B is the size. I have an A size. Can’t read the marks on the dynamic jaw, but the stamp on the static jaw indicates that was probably included in the tool lit of a Pierce Arrow car.
