    Newbie Here

I bought my wife at the time a LA Free in 2004. It had a 24v NiMH battery, and was a mid drive drive with a 4 speed geared hub. Much better bike than I gave it credit for. Scrapped it because a new battery was unavailable (this before I started building batteries). Wish I would of kept it.

concerns with ebikes laws and ways to improve them

Here's an article in concern to a Washington State bill that is intended to tighten up what is considered an ebike: State Lawmakers Want To Close The Loophole That Says This Isn’t A Motorcycle .

Can 36v be better than 48?

I recently installed a Grin All-Axle direct drive rear hubmotor and Phasrrunner controller, and it rocks! So, in my opinion, one needs to experience a quality direct drive motor in order to judge the efficacy of that style of motor. Yes, they are heavier, though Grin shaved some weight off the...

Can 36v be better than 48?

I think a direct drive motor would make a superior cargo bike if done right. You would need to throw enough amps into the motor, and have good gearing for pedaling. It's the most reliable motor, albeit bigger and heavier. But it's a cargo bike and the extra weight of the motor and battery...

Crazy Walmart mid drive deal $349

Well, last week the Hyper mid-drive got down to $249, shipping included. Walmart must have swept the warehouse floor, as they are gone now. That has to have been the lowest cost new mid-drive ebike ever. The motor and battery seem to work well, though the overall bike is made of low end...

Sometimes you feel like a mid, sometimes you don't....

Not Grin, though. The All-Axle Hub motor ain't cheap, nor their Phaserunner controller. Though top shelf ebike stuff. Easy to get into the controller to set parameters, and what's not to like about a powerful lighter weight direct-drive hubmotor (I love regenerative braking).

Sometimes you feel like a mid, sometimes you don't....

Yeah, I had a chain come apart on a new mid-drive, and it was so sad in having to push the bike home. I believe they cheaped the chain (like everything else) on the sub $400 ebike. (It actually got down to $249 delivered!) On my newly remade hubmotor bike I can go 30mph plus with or without a...

Sometimes you feel like a mid, sometimes you don't....

I run a geared front hub motor in a bike and have had no problems climbing with it. Though you do need to put some effort into pedaling on steeper hills. It's a light ebike with good gearing.

Buy another freehub body, or run without. I have no idea how to source those things.

    New Tariffs 2025 !

I cross, by ferry, Puget Sound shipping lanes weekly. Haven't seen a container ship go by in quite awhile, which is unusual. So, I would say imports are way down due to the tariff fiasco, and shortages will soon be an issue. But that's just from my local observation.

getting a regular bike after my battery fails?

I'd ride the pedal bike for the joy of it, but I'd pull the groceries on the ebike.

New Jersey Would Be Foolish To Require E-Bike Insurance & Registration

I take offense to your statement. Some of the best ebikes are DIY (and maybe some of the worst too). As far as those cheap ebike minimotos, if the importation of hose are stopped within a couple of years we won't have a problem because they will have become garbage.

New Jersey Would Be Foolish To Require E-Bike Insurance & Registration

I'd feel lucky if I lived in New Jersey! Then those 3 mid-drive class 1 Hyper ebikes I bought from Walmart for $350 shipped might be worth something. They are gutless no-throttle bikes, and just what NJ is mandating.

Which bicycle companies have fast smart bike chargers?

The Grin Satiator is a very nice charger to have on hand. Though it costs about $300 IIRC.
