I'll let you know as soon as the weather lets me put some miles on it. I'm no longer as much of an all-weather rider like I used to be or like @Stefan Mikes is. ;)
That's a really inexpensive "Transit" rack from a mail-order company in the U.S. called Performance Bike (performancebike.com). I used the trick of using a single mounting strap and attaching to the bolt under the rear seat stay bridge where a fender mounts on an equipped model.
My 2022 Vado SL 5.0 in its 2024 incarnation. Changes include:
Custom built wheels with silent Vesper Onyx hubs by prowheelbuilder.com
Specialized Pathfinder Pro 700x42 tires
Ergon Evo saddle
Ergon grips
Shimano flat pedals (replacing SPDs)
I retained the Inner Bar Ends as well. Interestingly...
Is that a narrow-wide tooth part? The OEM chainring on my 5.0 is narrow-wide (which I didn't realize until I took the chain off for a deep cleaning when I was changing my wheels last week).
One reason I went with the SL 5.0 was the lower bottom gear ratio. It's very flat around here with just a few places with short climbs. However, after two full years, it occurred to me while tuning my derailleur the other day that I don't think I've ever actually shifted into the largest cog...
Thanks. Look nice on that yellow bike! You've convinced me to give it a go, although even though it and the Anatomica are both leather, they're quite different in design and feel. I might end up with the Anatomica in the end, but I have nothing to lose by trying my old trusty touring saddle...
Not to revive the endless "which saddle" thread but something interesting happened over the winter that's making me consider trying some other saddles on my SL. For the last two years I've had a (@Stefan Mikes approved) Selle Royale Respiro Moderate on my SL and also use a Respiro Athletic on my...
My Garmin Varia radar taillight is set to blink, but when an approaching car gets closer it gets brighter and blinks faster, giving the driver an extra signal.
Solution to the lockring problem. I'm very confident that I could tighten it sufficiently this way and probably close to the specified torque.
Everything went well and the new wheels are on the bike with chain installed, etc. I had to re-center the front brake caliper slightly; the rear was...
Easy to do since the magnet is integrated with the lockring.
For "extra credit", can you tell me what's "wrong" here that is causing some considerable trouble for me in finishing this job?
They're here! My new custom wheels from ProWheelbuilder.com arrived today. Why new wheels? Mainly because I wanted them and it's fun to configure a bespoke wheelset. They're built around silent Onyx Vesper hubs and silver bladed Sapim spokes (stays with the black & silver scheme of my Vado SL...
Numerous crashes? Exactly how often do you crash, Stefan? Do these happen at random times or do you have a particular schedule that you follow so that you remember to crash? ;)
In any case, nice job on the repair and a good explanation of the mechanics involved. I hope that it holds up for you!
Just the front. My bike is a non-EQ with the taillight in the seat, which went away when I got the Redshift seatpost and a different seat. I use a Garmin Varia radar taillight instead.
The motor in the current SL is definitely not silent, which I find mildly annoying at times, and a bit embarrassing when I'm on a group ride with mostly non-e-bikers. My old Vado 4.0, on the other hand, was completely silent in that regard.
