Photochromic sunglasses - yes or no?

    You're lucky she's just the CEO. Mine aspires to be the CXO, where the X stands for anything you could possibly be in charge of. ;^}

Back to gray skies and winter temperatures (around 60°F) now that our Santa Ana winds are gone and the marine layer's retaken the coast. But still a great morning for the missus and I to ride up the coast to Carlsbad Village for brunch at a favorite breakfast spot. Stopped on the way back to...

Watching the peloton - Professional Road Racing thread 2026

Just started watching the men's Stage 1 replay. Interesting Sam Watson interview. I like this kid! Yeah, I know he's 24, but he looks 12. Sounds committed to helping his team's star sprinter — another Sam W. — in the first few stages. Hinted that he might be free to race for himself after that.

2026 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Fabulous SF ride! Looks like the video started in Sausalito, where we lived for 7-8 years back in the 1980s. Rode MTB all over Marin County and the East Bay but somehow only rode across the Golden Gate Bridge once. What was I thinking??

Photochromic sunglasses - yes or no?

If it's not a bad thing, then why devote your entire reply to pointing it out?

    Turbo Vado 2 4.0 or 5.0 or 6.0?

Welcome aboard! From your mindful past approach to cadence and gearing, guessing you'd enjoy a built-in rider power meter as much as I enjoy the one on my Vado SL 1 5.0. Obviously not the most important factor in your decision. But which of the SL 2s offer a real-time rider power display —...

Welcome aboard! Must've been quite a scene. Probably too crowded for me, but I'm a sucker for colored lights in the dark — especially when they're moving.

Photochromic sunglasses - yes or no?

What's wrong with reviving an "old" thread with an on-topic post?? If EBR's to be an effective repository of collective ebike-related experience, better that than starting a new thread. A good storage system must also be a good retrieval system.

No worries. Repost that video in the 2026 thread, and I'll give it the 😍 it deserves there. Lived in and around SF for many years. Many fond memories.

Watching the peloton - Professional Road Racing thread 2026

Watching the Tour Down Under prologue TT replay on Peacock right now. Sam Watson's been in the hot seat for a long time now. Ben O'Connor just started. Glad to have World Tour cycling to watch again. Nothing inspires the fitness parts of my rides like watching pros making their superhuman feats...

A GCN video reminded me yesterday of a major gotcha in zone training (ZT): If you can't actually stay in Zone 2 when you're supposed to, maybe ZT isn't for you. Many credible sources on ZT recommend a roughly 80/20% mix of Zone 2/4 riding. But to reap max benefit, you really need to stay in...

Someone recently commented that Northern California is green this time of year, and Southern California is brown. And while many parts of SoCal are indeed pretty brown — and not just in winter — that's a bit of an oversimplification. In fact, the west slope of mountainous San Diego County is...

OK, I'll keep at it. No, not looking at RPE levels as quantities, just as ordered labels for certain feelings on the bike. Same with zone numbers — just labels. If we have no labels for these things, how can we recognize and track them — even informally? True, but I'm prepared to go all Zen...

Slowly coming around to that point of view but having a hard time putting it into practice by myself. For example, lots of noise in my RPE signal. Paid attention to 3-second rider power, HR, breathing, and RPE on today's 25 mi hill and coast fitness ride. The first 3 tracked together pretty...

Cool! I'll look into it. The default zone boundaries probably don't reflect my own metabolism, but I see you can edit them.

What app is that? Looks kinda like my Specialized app (latest black icon version), but my app doesn't show time spent in rider power zones. (I have a Vado SL 1 5.0 with Mastermind.)

Reviewed several interviews yesterday with Dr. Inigo San Millan, Pogi's training physiologist. A pioneer and still a leading authority in metabolic zone training. This guy's got all the lab equipment and experience in the world at his disposal. And yet, he's a big believer in using...
