My DIY efforts are also highly subject to... Gumperson's Law: The least likely contingency will always occur at the most inopportune time. And also to... Gumperson's Corollary: Any attempt to circumvent Gumperson's Law will also be subject to Gumperson's Law. Of course, Gumperson wasn't just...

Wahoo ELEMNT Ace (on Specialized E-Bikes)

That app-mediated method's a pretty clumsy way to get a target address into the ACE. But thanks for laying it out. Now I know what to do should the need arise.

Ebike touring recommendations 120 km a day range with a 150 kg (bike+ rider luggage) and 750-800 wh battery or 2 batteries 750-800 wh batteries

May have been mentioned, but some recent Gazelle models offer less expensive range extenders. Sorry, don't recall the details.

    Winter Sucks

Last week, I posted about San Diego County's back-to-back 75 and 78°F days — not inland, but right here on the coast! Did it mainly to rub it in for members in much colder climes, but partly because 75-78° is pretty remarkable for the end of January, even by our standards. ;^} This short-lived...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

I've never had a seat post stay put as well as this one has. Is that the upside of the wedge design?

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

The good news: My SL 1 seat post's only slipped down 1-2 mm in the 17 months and 3200 mi I've owned it. The wedge is in no danger of falling down the seat tube if I move the seat post only that amount, right? I think the post's about halfway in.

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

Been reluctant to let a much shorter friend ride my SL for exactly that reason. Tell me about it! I look at it like DIY golf. Getting a job done in the expected time is a hole in one. I've never shot a hole in one. Triple the time is 3 strokes. My handicap is 4.

New Jersey Would Be Foolish To Require E-Bike Insurance & Registration

Don't know about the throttle part, but Carlsbad's doing something similar in partnership with the school district and local police: o Park an ebike on a school campus without a school-issued permit, and the bike gets impounded. o No permit without a certificate of completion from the police...

    mahle x20 firmware update

Very interesting. Nice of Mahle to include your older motor. Glad the update went well. Questions, if I may: Q1. What do you think the update did to increase mechanical motor power? Q2. Could you actually feel the added power? Q3. Could the update have adjusted the built-in power meter...

    Discover 3 hub drive

Welcome aboard! Good question. Others can help with the technical aspects. Just chiming in to say that Velotric's making some real values these days. Quite impressed with my wife's year-old Breeze 1. Well-designed, well-made, powerful, only 48 lb, and lots of fun to ride! Only quibble is the...

    Vacation planning with E-Bikes

The missus would certainly agree. She's become the family travel agent and is quite good at it. Thoroughly enjoys the many hours spent on the research, trade-offs, sequencing, and even the booking. And you certainly can't argue with the results. One fabulous trip after another. Just one...

    Turbo Vado 2 4.0 or 5.0 or 6.0?

Agree, right now keeping M = 100 in every E/M test assist mode makes the most sense to me, as it eliminates a major confounding factor. As before, the first thing I wanna test with FIT files in hand: Is Pm really linear in Pr before saturation? Indications so far point to a nonlinear...

    Turbo Vado 2 4.0 or 5.0 or 6.0?

That might well be turn out to be the lowest assist I test, but not done thinking through the whole effort. If I'm going to ride the test runs and analyze the resulting FIT files, I want every test to yield as much key info as possible.

    Turbo Vado 2 4.0 or 5.0 or 6.0?

Is that the same control technique as pulse width modulation? Official Spec graph for the Mahle SL 1.1 motor in the SL 1 and Creo 1. Sorry, don't recall source document. As you can see, above 60 rpm, SL 1 motor efficiency climbs from roughly 75 to 90%. Spec documents often simplify that trend...
