What camera do you use if you are into photography, when cycling

i've always loved photography. these days my main camera is a nikon z8, prior was z7 and d850, which may be my all time favorite, but time marches on. i have had many drones, including some custom self-built heavy lifters that i actually shot with the d850 from. these days, i use a mavic 2 pro...

    Need Saddle Advice!

i said “for most things,” not all, but yes, i do try to avoid leather for most everything. i have a few pairs of leather shoes (as few as possible) but i don’t know if you’ve looked at shoes lately - the leather part is on top of the foot typically, not underneath it! and the most comfortable...

    Need Saddle Advice!

these victorian looking leather saddles confuse me. it's 2025, we have managed to figure out better materials for most things than strips of dried cow with freaking rivets. leather is for aesthetics or historical relevance. unpopular opinion, i know, maybe because the longest ride i've ever...

What have you learned from your e-bike experiences?

my little one loooooves the bell on her bike, it took a while to prevent her from using it for non-safety purposes hahah. she still gives one ding to indicate that she heard me telling her to do something (turn, slow down, etc) the two most common unpleasant behaviors we see are 1) elderly...

What have you learned from your e-bike experiences?

also, they need to fit snugly - without movement, there is no friction. the movement goes between the shorts and the saddle, not between the shorts and the skin. have you done the specialized sit bone measure thing?

What have you learned from your e-bike experiences?

if i waved at every passing bike, i’d never have my hands on the bars :) on a long ride far from the city, i will give a friendly gesture, which is almost always reciprocated. sometimes just a nod or a hand signal.

What have you learned from your e-bike experiences?

oh looooordy! glad you’re recovering, but those are some major errors! i have three pairs of padded shorts. nothing goes under them. nothing. wear each in sequence, then wash. repeat. no cream, no lotion, shower after each ride. i am cringing at the idea of underwear under padded shorts...

    machinists don't use torque wrenches

you‘re making a general statement about best practices of working on bicycles based on a handful of parts of specific type and manufacture. while It’s generally true that larger fasteners correspond to more torque, it’s way more nuanced than that. of my two most recent bikes, one has 6mm head...

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

theoretically... You could do even better. the lightest mass produced disc brake bikes out there weigh a bit under 6kg. Scott addict RC, Canyon Ultimate CF Evo Disc 10.0 LTD, s-works aethos, all in the 5.8 to 5.95 kg range. it’s safe to say that if there was some easy way to go way under that...

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

that’s ok, you’re getting interesting data. i’m sure you can look back and see how long the climb took. would be interesting to know if you’re going a lot faster on the TQ!

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

if price was not a factor, and an LBS not a requirement, i think i'd go with the canyon today! very nice bike. the ability to put standard 2x electronic drivetrains on a mid-drive is a game changer - although the inability to use the correct crank arms for the group is a bummer. i'd have to use...

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

cool! @Yako i may have missed it (i'm not good at watching videos lol) but did you spend the same amount of TIME climbing on the x20 as the hpr40? that will be the biggest factor by far, because (assuming you’re pedaling with the same effort) the slower you go the higher the proportion of the...

    Creo 2 Carbon Cranks

as you might guess, i have that spreadsheet lol. looking back it was ±4lb apples to apples, there are a few things i've forgotten or don't have weights for like bottle cages, lights, bar tape, etc. the cost per gram ranges from less than a dollar a gram to $5 a gram, but the biggest difference...

    Roof

you’d think so … but ……. (and certainly not to keep a bunch of cyclists dry 😂 ) it’s actually sorta a serious problem though. many cities are reluctant to invest too much or compromise other modes for cycling infrastructure because they can’t reduce capacity of other systems, since when it...

    Roof

sure, but overhead power lines are skinny and high up and generally not in a line between the fire lane and the first 75’ of the building that’s on fire! there’s a reason they don’t put those things 10-15’ above the ground, which is where a roof would have to be to effective at in keeping a bike...

    Roof

fun idea. bike lanes are usually next to curbs/sidewalks tho, which means they’re in the area firefighters use for their trucks and ladders and so on. typically not allowed to have continuous obstructions there.
