It looked, visually, perfect. Always lube the threads of the DHAG. Hangers are often aluminum and can get cross threaded.

It tastes like miso. I'll bet you could make miso soup out of it. Vegemite, you make miso very happy. I'm so glad you came into my life. Or you could make a miso sandwich and hand it to a guy who is 6'4" and full of muscles.

On that white Public conversion with a TSDZ2b, I did a shifting tune. It first got a new cable with CLR gun oil in the housing. Then I removed the derailleur, cleaning and lubing it. And I applied the hanger adjustment gauge. Besides the items mentioned, ring, chain, and freewheel. Finally I...

You can get biscuits at any truck stop in the US for breakfast, called biscuits and gravy. It is a pork based gravy from bacon fat. It is the kind of food Elvis would eat.

I have a friend who took me kingtide kayaking and knows how to time it just right, so on the river (a tidal slough) the tide takes you out five miles and then back. The local paper says: “The king tides are the result of three different lunar events going on, which is why the king tides are...

Make sure the hose is tight when you put in the barb and screw the olive so all the fluid stays in when pumping the reservoir on top.

This is the new normal. Many major roads, shopping areas, and expensive residential areas are on the flats by the bay in Marin. They will need to all be abandon in the coming decades of global warming consequences. It is one reason I ride a bike and have not flown in a plane since 2012. Putting...

It is as high as it goes. We had huge rains overnight and there is the Kingtide. Ramps to docks that are normally at a 30 or 40 degree slope are now at a 5 degree slope. Still some people were on paddle boards. This is a pineapple express storm it is now 60 F.

    Cable actuated hydraulic caliper upgrade

Back in October a guy had a 97 pound 'bike' shipped to him. It had small Tektro knock off brakes and stopping from 20 mph took 40 yards. It was a joke on a 1500 watt bike. I sent him to the electric bike store downtown to get an upgrade estimate of $700 for Magura. Then I sat down with him and...

Another application for cable actuated hydraulic brakes are BMX stunt bikes. They will do things like take a jump and spin the handlebar four times before landing. Can't do that with hydro hoses.

    Cable actuated hydraulic caliper upgrade

From what I have seen is that if you are 100 miles from civilization and loaded with camping gear, you do not want to get vapor lock or do a bleed. Cable actuated, or cable actuated hydraulic is the preference. Some cable actuated brakes are very nice and so easy to adjust. I would much rather...

How many miles a year do you ride?

@Watana Bob, What is your latitude? I am reading a 720 page book on Polynesian culture that is more than a novel. It full of information. In a canoe with no hightech tools they could sail from Fiji to Hawaii. The cost of navigationally being off by a fraction of a degree is death. It is called...

How many miles a year do you ride?

@Watana Bob I wish you the best. That is tough stuff. I know someone who will soon be 72 and is training in the South 500 miles a week analog in hill country, to cross the continent on gravel with her custom eBike, while living in her tent, in the Spring. Falling back seems easier, but it is...

How many miles a year do you ride?

It was misty rain for my first ride of the year today. And it was a blast. Some of the trails are decomposed granite or gravel, so it was not too muddy. Edit: This is Helen Putnam Regional Park, Petaluma, the gateway to Chileno Valley and Western Marin roads to Tomales Bay. The date stamp was...

How many miles a year do you ride?

It is going to be 50 F and cloudy this morning. I traditionally go on a Jan 1st ride to a hilly park with nice trails. It will be mucky due to rains. Then it will rain more in the afternoon. The photo is of a January First ride of a couple of years ago at that park.
