A guy brought me a diamond frame bike and wanted me to make it a step-thru by cutting off the top tube.

Because I have bike lights on bikes. I normally use a strobe mode and do not use the motion detector. I can turn my head to give a car a quick flash and then look to the side.

I often put lights on helmets. Two of these are close motion activated. You move through modes such as solid to strobe by waving your hand. The ones on the ends are epoxied on. The middle one is attached by rubber straps. The one on the left is removable with the visor. What is great is that the...

No, over time the shift housing became slightly compressed. It took years. I went to the hardware store to buy zip ties a bag of 50 was $17.50. A bag of 25 at the dollar store was $1.25.

@spokewrench. I took one head like on the right and squared the face. I removed the backside burrs. I honed it, finishing with buffing compound to strop it like a barber's razor. I then brass wire brushed and buffed it all rust free, smooth, gleaming silver, and painted it black, then added a...

    Signs of fall/winter.

Today on a group ride we spotted pink blossom buds on a tree on Corona Road, 94954, as we approached the mountain. We did just 16 miles with 1,150 in elevation gains. It could have been a crabapple or decorative plumb. The mustard was in bloom.

I did a dumb and amateurish blunder. One of my bikes with a steel frame had, as a starter analog bike, a couple of exposed sections of shift cable that was routed under the bottom bracket. With a mid-drive the cables needs to run over the bottom bracket so they are not crushed by the motor. I...

I just removed a rear wheel and changed the tire. Straight forward stuff. Putting it back I had a Mobius chain. How the F could that happen? I wasted an hour trying to figure it out. Then I ended up breaking the chain and giving it a half untwist to make it right. This must be my punishment for...

New ebike laws in California taking effect January 1, 2026

When you have a populated place, such as along a Southern California beach, it is nice that everyone has common protocols, and agreed rules like staying to the right to avoid collisions. A bike path near me has three posted rules: Stay Right, Be Polite, Do Not Obstruct. It is not over...

That eBike group ride on Sunday is gaining a lot of traction as word spreads. It started as two people then it went to four, now people are posting it on social media. I would be happy for five riders, but hundreds of local eyeballs will see it, so who knows.

Wait a sec. The northern hemisphere guy from Brussels who was 6'4" and full of muscles; are you saying that by handing him a vegemite sandwich it was a southern hemisphere plot to assassinate him? I thought it was to fortify his workouts, like drinking Guinness at lunch. The flute solo was...

Okay, so the forecast said that the rain would let up for an hour, so I went for a five mile ride. When I got back I had to peel off my socks and pants. It didn't let up. The river is at its banks and the road to the next town is flooded. I am still glad that I did it.

I manage to get out once a day but this rain is nuts. I am organizing a group ride up a mountain on either Sunday or Monday when it will finally be sunny. It is a beautiful place, dare I say magical? It is so close, yet a world away. There are views of vineyards, the Pacific, and to San...
