I am in the "rent a big van for long trips" camp now. Preferably a hybrid. I won't fly unless absolutely necessary, and trains are few and far between. I wouldn't want to drive some huge van or truck daily, but several times a year for Interstate trips is OK.

As with many political things, the fact that they loudly declare something as absolutely true usually means it's really not true. No real genius would ever claim the title "Genius"... and no one who is actually very stable assumes they will stay that way long. Too much chaos for that, resilient...

That fits well with what I know about intercity car use cases. It might well apply to longer trips on major interstates where chargers are available (or soon will be) but not for state highways and country roads, not during my lifetime anyway.

With today's chaotic supply lines, it's even difficult for a LBS to get some parts for the bikes they do sell; getting parts to service a DTC bike is probably a very poor business decision. I certainly wouldn't do it if I had a bike shop (or appliance store, or car dealership, or anything...

@indianajo once made the point that a chinguard is probably more important than a MIPS helmet because his chin took the hit on pavement in an OTB accident, not his head. But you are less likely to die from a badly broken jaw than a bad concussion. Coin flip?

Indeed, some LBS can and will. But you have to know enough to ask about it, and many that handle mostly ebikes don't know anyway, sadly.
