2025 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

You're not curious about why they cost so much in comparison to cars or motorbikes like the examples above? Why, when frequently made in the same factories by the same engineers as OB Chinese/Taiwanese frames or parts they can cost up to twice as much?

This always bugs me too. The sheer number of manufactured engine parts compared to an ebike is crazy for the prices to be the same. I'd guess that quantity of sales of motorbikes compared to ebikes is enormous coupled with the R&D expense for new ebike tech could be some of the reasons, but yeah...

    2025 UCI World Championships

S P O I L E R S Congrats to Ben Healy on a superb Bronze medal in Rwanda. Actually that's really like winning gold, the first across the line of the mere humans as he was beaten by Pog and Remco. Pog flying away early, Remco, missing the move but fighting back destroying group after group...

Ive had some Sierra Nevada in Colorado very long time ago. Very nice and another one with a bicycle on the bottle? Fat tire? So long ago. But I like a wide range of beers depending on my mood, temperature and time of year! In Oz I'll happily have a VB if the day is scorching hot and I've been...

Racing eMTBs: Taking On A Special Challenge

So I went back and had a look. That World Championship Enduro race was 70km with 7000m of climbing. The Battery size limit was actually a weight limit of 4.5kg. These are UCI regulations so perhaps you can check if the UCI has any regs or even guidelines for e gravel races yet? At the moment...

Thankfully it looks like Brewdog might be heading for bankruptcy, over extended, 4 years of losing millions, plus the owner is a real shithead famously awful to his staff! https://www.thenational.scot/news/25407685.bar-chain-boss-reveals-brewdog-axed-2000-pubs-ditch-brand/ You're missing all...

Racing eMTBs: Taking On A Special Challenge

It sounds like the European EMTB racing authorities have taken immediate action to prevent motor brands having too much power. The new regulations for the upcoming EMTB World Championships are Max Speed 25kph, Cont Power 250wh, Max Peak Power 750wh which then excludes Dji/Avinox motors. Plus a...

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

Saw that. The main guy (the son) seemed a bit of a dick. Like he'd never heard of all the lightweight motor developments in the last 4 years. I thought we had got past this looking down on e bikes attitude. Or the way he never told his mum that there are 3 assist settings not just eco so he...

What have you learned from your e-bike experiences?

Fascinating hearing all that and really cool to see your work on it! Did the Belgian Cowboy bikes ever make it to the US? They always seemed a Van Moof rival, but seemed to make more sensible component decisions, less proprietary, used gates drive rather than just slapping a plastic chain...

What have you learned from your e-bike experiences?

Oh it was a classic start up collapse. Was surprised they re emerged. Not sure who is running the show & I don't know the nitty gritty of how they are doing.

Yeah... not really though, it's small and doesn't dangle to near ground. Plus of course no fear of derailleur ending up in spokes with that wonderful crunch! noise. Had enough of those in my time.

He's not from the US? He's British. Are any of them? Is Spesh, the Taiwanese owned, constantly bailed out & constantly in danger of bankruptcy the same as it was in the 80s when it made the first Stumpjumper and Rockhopper? Accell Group (Dutch) now owns Haibike. Corporate world gobbling...

Haibike invented EMTBs. I'd forgotten how easy it is to get you worked up when you think someone has dared insult Spesh... as easy as shooting fish in...

As I said above: Yep. If I was in the market for a nice n sexy emtb (I'm not) and if I had the cash to spare (I don't) Think i'd be getting this rather gorgeous Haibike
