NSW [Australia] considering plan to halve power and top speed of ebikes as rider dies in collision with garbage truck

Modern cars whether petrol hybrid or EV all have sophisticated computer systems for enhanced cruise control, lane assist, automatic braking etc. I don't see why cars are not fitted with legal speed restrictors so in built up areas, 20 and 30mph zones in Uk for example, the cars would be...

    Recumbent E-bikes

Agree with this but also on a long climb, say on one of the 3 week tours, the rider finds a cadence that they can maintain to conserve energy over the 10 to 20km climb and not blow up. But the road can ramp up, so to maintain constant speed, riders get out of the saddle, sprinting to compensate...

Show us a recent sunset during your ride!

That probably sounded a bit too depressing. It's not like this every day, thankfully. Just happened to be waiting for my son's bus and for some reason took that miserable snap with my phone. When the sun shines I do love the sharp and clear winter light. It's just where we live on the northern...

Show us a recent sunset during your ride!

3.40pm today. Some flooding. Temperature about 12c so it's not cold. Just windy, very wet and very dark all day. The sun has clearly shot itself in despair, can't blame it. 1st of December, only 4 more months of this to go...

    Robots are coming fast

Elon apparently liked Iain Banks as a writer, probably because Banks gave his sentient spaceships fantastic names that Musk could nick. But weird to think about because Banks developed a utopian and clearly socialist future society called The Culture. Amazing books but I guess fascist Musk must...

What Are Recumbent E-Bikes/Trikes Like In The Winter In Ice And Compacted Snow?

Saukki, a finnish Velomobile cyclist (velomobilist?) demonstrates how he does his daily 25km each way commute in a snow and ice freezing Finnish winter. I like his videos, he's funny and tries out different Velomobiles in all conditions.

    Pinion Motor.Gearbox.Unit (MGU)

In my neck of the woods, everybody wants DJI and their 1000W burst throttle. Dji throttle? Not that I was aware of. They have 1000Wh of peak power in boost mode & 120nm torque. For comparison after the latest CX update it's now up to 750Wh boost & 100Nm torque. The Avinox system is getting...

    Pinion Motor.Gearbox.Unit (MGU)

Fairly full on review of the Haibike ALLMTN CF in the dark dank Welsh hills in our current lovely November weather. Bonus of the best handlebar moustache I've seen since the Battle of Britain, and he can get remarkable air too. Bike looks very cool I think.

    Recumbent E-bikes

Nice article & video about Soup Dragon, the Mike Burrows RIP designed HPV hoping to break the bicycle land speed record and get to 90mph. Mike died sadly in 2022 from cancer, a giant of HPV design and the designer of Chris Boardman's Lotus Olympic Winning TT bike as well as the revolutionary...

2025 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Keep your hopes up. The Golden Ballroom Presidency looks to be crumbling a bit. There seems to be the whiff of reality in the air all of a sudden, maybe it'll lead to real change next November.

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

Part of it is that everything is connected by the frame so a squeak from drive train could be saddle, post, BB, pedals, mech, cassette, hubs and of course on e bikes the motor. Might even be loose headset or handlebars as the pedalling motion causes 'ripples' through the frame, everything...

    mechanical doping

He's a classic sociopath. He is now somewhat successfully resurrecting his reputation with a popular podcast, with guests like Bradley Wiggins and even Cav. It seems time forgives. I can't.

    mechanical doping

LeMond who knows a thing or two about doping as the first whistleblower on Armstrong, pointing out his numbers were impossible, is cautiously happy' about top riders numbers today. Plus they x ray bikes at the finish line to check for concealed motors. I wouldn't say it's 100% that there is no...

Turbo Vado SL2 6.0 Eq Carbon - intermittent power issues

Nope. But when you are grinding it's obvious the motor is under strain which leads to overheating. I've had the motor replaced under warranty in the past, it wasn't broken but was loud and bike shop advised it was worn and should be replaced & Spesh immediately agreed. Hills take it out of a...

Turbo Vado SL2 6.0 Eq Carbon - intermittent power issues

Yes I've gone to 36 chainring 11-46 on the back (From 44T 11-42) with same motor on my Vado SL (same motor as Creo 1) and it can easily go up 20% hills here on Dartmoor. As an added bonus you're not putting the motor under as much strain (no grinding/overheating) so extending its life as well.

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

Another Yako review/ride this time of a Trek road bike with the TQ60. Interesting comparing to the TQ40 on the Canyon, plus as ever, a fun ghoulish Tale from The Trail. The man is on fire! Canyon Endurace, Grizl and now this Trek. As winter gets darker and wetter here, seeing the maze of...

Electric Bike Companies That Have Gone Out Of Business

It's a s*it time for bike companies. The boom then bust of the covid years, then the cost of living crises where all consumer goods sales dropped. Bikes aren't exactly essentials when belts are being tightened. And now this tariff nonsense. It's no surprise so many are going under. The industry...
