Watching the peloton - Professional Road Racing thread 2026

Simon Yates retiring. Sudden & shock announcement of the Visma star retiring immediately, just before the start of the 2026 season. The 2025 Giro Italia champion aged 33 has called it a day. I'm pretty shocked. Guess he feels he's retiring at the top of his game, doesn't sound like it's any...

The race of the falling leaves

Tomorrow is the 119th edition of Giro Di Lombardia or Classica delle foglie morte. The last Monument of the season & the final race that means anything before they all reconvene in Oz for the first race of the year at Tour Down Under on the 20th January 2026. The favourite? Who else but Pog...

6 month report on my Cairn BRAVe

Sticking this in the Shimano section as there isn't any Cairn threads and I have no clue how to start one! Now I've had the bike a while, here are some thoughts on this practical and fun bike. BRAVe Cairn are a small UK company, more a side project by the people who make HUNT wheels. They...

New motors are coming out of the woodwork. But this is a big one, Mahle's first mid drive - and the big power arms race continues:

New Gen 4 Levo is a comin'...

Next Monday is release date. Hundreds of excited rumours floating around online so thought it would be fun to open a thread on this release here. For kicks and popcorn as for the record I'm not in the market for a new bike but I do love watching a big bike launch all the fuss all the reviews...

New Lidl mid drive 100nm EMTB!

Looks a good package & low price. Powerful motor decent spec for price and full waterproofing. Prices are getting more sensible & with much more choice. Only a couple of years ago there was nothing really rideable mid drive under €2k. https://www.bikeradar.com/news/lidl-crivit-peak-709

Happy 4th Year Anniversary to my ol' Vado SL4!

Only realised yesterday it's exactly 4 years since I purchased my trusty Vado SL4 from the Bicycle Chain shop an hour up the M5 in Taunton and very good they've been too. I've been recovering from a flu bug that wiped me out but got out for a short ride yesterday (in between massive rain...

Nick Sanders completes first ebike round the world trip on a Yamaha.

Great story. Nick who is now 65 has circumnavigated the world 11 times on bikes & motorbikes, has just arrived back having done it again on a Yamaha Wabash RT ebike. If that’s not inspirational for e bike riders I don’t know what is!! Amazing. No stopping this man...

UK ebike motors plagued by failing motors

I'd agree with this article. Keep coming accross forums about motor replacements/damage from water. Perhaps because we have winter conditions that are generally mild (Over 0c degrees mostly) but very wet. Plus summer conditions that are mild but very wet! (10-25c with rare heatwaves above 25c -...

New Bosch SX range from Moustache

I've always liked the looks of the French brand Moustache, they sort of do their own thing & in a very French stylish way! But being based on the Bosch system they were always full fat and fairly heavy for my interest. This new trange based around the Bosch lightweight SX motor looks very...

Massive sale at Specialized U.K. 50% off.

Hmmm. Loads of rumours swirling around in industry. This might be just a local sale getting rid of some of the post covid stockpiles before new models pop, but also this sale is reminding me of what Kona did a couple of months ago (2 for 1 sale) in what now looks like their desperation - as of...

Swapped my chainring for a 36T on my Vado SL 4.0

Swapped out my 38T RaceFace chainring for a cheap 36T Amazon special (Snail?) giving me a low gear of 36T x 46T on my Vado SL 4.0. No need to shorten the chain so I can easily change back if required. The result is I can get up 18-25% hills easier and I've noticed the motor is both quieter and...

New lightweight mid drive motor in development from Mavic

Testing sounds interesting, if still at prototype stage. Couple of years away from release but shows the way industry is moving after TQ, Fazua 60 etc. Smaller, lighter and able to use third party crankset so Q Factor is same as ordinary bike. Good in-depth article here...
