    Shimano E8000 + ... Alfine 8? Rohloff Speedhub?

Oooh-wow-wee this was unexpected. Shimano told the shop that they couldn't speed de-restrict my motor, that certain regions are "locked out" and mentioned specifically Vietnam. Now I would have thought that Shimano Tech, if anybody, would have admin privileges to make that happen when remoting...

    Shimano E8000 + ... Alfine 8? Rohloff Speedhub?

Hey an update just for what it's worth, the bike is with a shop and in the work queue for an online session with Shimano. When the E030 message is present (shifter is plugged in), I managed to get the electric shifting working across all 8 gears, but the motor remains off / no assist...

    Shimano E8000 + ... Alfine 8? Rohloff Speedhub?

Dang I've been taking my sweet ol' time with this build. Need to get it finished up. The new EP8 (800) motor is installed, I neatly tucked away the SD300 -> SD50 adapters, looking good except now I've got an E030 error when I power up the system. No error messages present in eTube for Windows...

    Shimano E8000 + ... Alfine 8? Rohloff Speedhub?

Same. For example, I contacted Bosch about adding electronic shifting to my wife's Bianchi. Their reply: can't help you, contact Bianchi. Bianchi's reply: can't help you, contact your bike shop. At least with Shimano, they'll talk to me, and they offer the necessary guidance, tools, and support.

    Shimano E8000 + ... Alfine 8? Rohloff Speedhub?

Oh yeah, Shimano and I have a long history going back to the original Hollowtech cranks using different spindle lengths for the LX and XT crank arms, and all the chain width Tomfoolery when 9 speed was first hitting the MTB scene. I should have expected this!

    Shimano E8000 + ... Alfine 8? Rohloff Speedhub?

Another stupid update: I did indeed need the new motor cover. Thankfully only $17 and shipped with the adapters I mentioned in the previous post. I got everything plugged in and great, the SD50 to SD300 adapters do what they're supposed to. So far, so good. And success! The EP8 recognizes...

    Shimano E8000 + ... Alfine 8? Rohloff Speedhub?

Quick update: Motor arrived from China cocooned in bubble wrap and stryfoam, part number is correct (EP800), looks new with assembly grease on the spindle, plugs in ports, includes accessory screws and spider lockring, but no cover. I was thinking I would re-use the cover from the E8000, but...

    Shimano E8000 + ... Alfine 8? Rohloff Speedhub?

You got it, fingers crossed. BTW just putting it out there... I wrote my last few posts thinking of Di2 shifting + Alfine as sort of a high tech "cool to have" feature but not really a necessity, that this is all sort of just a silly and unnecessary pursuit for me. However I've been riding...

Crazy Walmart mid drive deal $349

I've been keeping an eye out for some good ebike deals for my folks, who have recently expressed some interest. I envision a step-thru for my dad (he's in his 70s now, so, ya' know... I love my step-thru cruiser!) but an Electra for mom just because she's expressed some concerns about stability...

    Shimano E8000 + ... Alfine 8? Rohloff Speedhub?

OK thanks again @BlackHand you sent me down "the path" (you know which one) and here's what I came up with: EP801 uses Shimano's 2nd gen battery tech so would be incompatible with the Felt battery. The Yuba Mondo frame I have access to is a EP-800-CRG (cargo version) using the 1st gen battery...

    Shimano E8000 + ... Alfine 8? Rohloff Speedhub?

You don't say?!? I just so happen to have access to an EP8 on a Yuba Mondo frame, which is the winter cargo project I'm formulating. Since that cargo bike would get the Rohloff that's currently on my Xtracycle, I'm not in dire need of gobs and gobs of torque. Sure, nice, but I'd bet the E8000...

    Shimano E8000 + ... Alfine 8? Rohloff Speedhub?

FWIW the Di2 derailleur option sounds interesting but I'm kind of a gear hub freak. The only derailleur I ride is my road bike. My other bikes are a collection of Speedhubs, Alfine, Nuvinci, a Spectro and a Pinion. I feel committed to the cause. My winter project is going to be to electrify my...

    Shimano E8000 + ... Alfine 8? Rohloff Speedhub?

I thought I was all set. I retired my get-around street bike, a 2017 Raleigh Misceo ie with an E6000 motor and an 8-speed Alfine with electric Di2 shifting. I kept the Misceo's rear wheel & Alfine, and outfitted the bike with a 9 speed derailleur prior to sale. It's done and gone. The...

How Well Does YOUR E6000 Auto Shifting Perform On Hills?

I run a Speedhub on our tandem and it's been bullet proof. I haven't used them, but there are electric shifting options for the Speedhub and I believe there's an auto shifting option in conjunction with Bosch motors.

Steps E6000 W012 (torque) error -- fix & keep, or return?

I'd like to hear more about the timing of the release of the bike and the firmware -- it sounds like you have the inside scoop there. But for anybody who hasn't read through this long post: - firmware was updated - per conversation with Shimano tech, crank position relative to the index mark...

    Raleigh Sprite IE Fixer Upper

Hmmm is right. But the problem must lie in that clutch, no? Just based on the condition you're describing? Unless the motor is kicking in too severely, over-running your pedaling cadence, effectively advancing the large sprocket beyond the engagement point the clutch is currently locked into...

    Raleigh Sprite IE Fixer Upper

Let's back this up a sec. I was rereading what you wrote originally, "The issue I'm having is that the crank slipping. When the bike is on a stand (battery and motor off) , and you spin the cranks with your hand, it turns the chain and moves the rear wheel, however, once you get on the bike and...

Oops! Ended up with my 3rd Raleigh (2019 Detour iE)

Hey, it's been a few weeks, here's an update. Excellent timing (pat on back) for the shelter in place. My wife gave me the stink-eye when I brought this bike home, but she's been riding it every weekend. She's even made a cross-town meal delivery. Other than the ridiculously wide saddle and...
