Looks like I will have to buy the shimano chain at some point.

NEW 2021 MOTOR COLLECTION (PW-X2 45) for the CIVANTE?

Makes me think that I should have waited until next year to get a Civante. I would actually rather see the bike get a 48v system vs the 36v but having a max cadence of 120 would be nice. My Civante arrives Tuesday after a 3 month wait😊

    aventon aventure vs rize X

Well that is my misunderstanding and mistake. Go for the Rize X over the Aventon Adventure style which is also a 73 pound beast. If you don't need the front suspension (which is useless if you will be riding on pavement and it adds about 5 pounds of weight. It also slows the bike down due to...

    aventon aventure vs rize X

You are not really going to notice a difference between 8 vs 9 speed and the new Altus uses Alivio technology. Both are budget gear but not bottom of the barrel. My wife's bike uses a much older Acera and it shifts great. Unless you are a professional racer you won't know the difference...

    aventon aventure vs rize X

The Rize X is 73 pounds, the Aventon Pace 500 is 50 pounds. The Pace 500 is $1500, the Rize is $2199. With relatively cheap upgrades to the Aventon you can get the weight down to about 45 pounds. I looked at the Pace 500 for myself and my wife. I ended up going with a Yamaha Civante Road...

What mods have you done to lighten your Ebike

Worth matters only to the buyer. I like you analogy to audio cables. It just so happens that I have a $30K 2ch sound system and cables do make a difference in sound-XLR, RCA and USB Cables. I have some $400 cables and they sound better than $100 cables for sure and it is worth it to me for...

What mods have you done to lighten your Ebike

Those specialized Pathfinder Pro tires are on the Specialized Vado Super light bike and they have a low rolling resistance due to the center tread. The bike uses 38c's. They are a good tire and did not feel like a wide tire when I rode the bike.

What mods have you done to lighten your Ebike

Yes, wheels do make a huge difference. Better wheels are stiffer and lighter. But with wheels it is the whole package-Rims, Spokes, hubs and tires. I upgraded the wheels on a few bikes and it is the best place to upgrade your bike. One of my local bike shops use to sell road bikes that cost...

What mods have you done to lighten your Ebike

I am not really looking for better acceleration. I care about turning and how the bike handles as well as having to lift the bike as I get older. I am already 62 and plan on riding into my 70's if I can. I bought an Ebike so that I can keep up with my son and other riders who can cruise at...

What mods have you done to lighten your Ebike

Nice, that EVG bike you have looks sweet. I am just trying to make the bike feel a little more nimble as I am coming from a 23lb bike. I did a test ride on the Specialized Vado SL which is a straight bar Ebike that weighs about 36 pounds and if was fairly nimble, more so than the 44lb Yamaha...

What mods have you done to lighten your Ebike

I have a Yamaha Civante Ebike on order. I am curious as to what upgrades people have done to lighten their Ebikes. I plan on upgrading the tires to 28c or 32c Pirelli Cinturato Velo TLC tires (very low rolling resistance and excellent puncture resistance for a training tire) which should...

Civante disk brakes are Shimano 105 SM-RT70

Todbar is correct about your cassette. So no worries. It might be an issue if you had 5K hard miles on your bike as you might notice some noise or not as crisp shifting. I had that issue when I upgraded components on my very old professional racing bike- a Peugeot PX-10 which I dearly miss (I...

Civante disk brakes are Shimano 105 SM-RT70

Thanks for the tip about the chain. I am still waiting on my Civante to come in as it has been delayed 5 weeks. It is supposed to arrive at the Yammy warehouse on the 14th so I should get it the end of May. The riding weather here in MN has been lousy so I don't feel too bad. I will...

    Cassette Question

Yes it will but if you look at the pull down tabs or scroll down you will see that they have 11-28. I think the largest that they came in was 11-30. It just means you will have a narrower range of gears. Personally, I prefer a narrow range as it allows you to find a comfortable cadence when...

    Cassette Question

There are plenty of 105 10 speed cassettes available from multiple online stores and Amazon. https://www.jensonusa.com/Shimano-105-CS-5700-10-Speed-Cassette https://www.universalcycles.com/shopping/product_details.php?id=36253 And here is an Ultegra...

2020 Civante Review, Initial 100 mile Impressions

I don't have my Civante yet, it is coming in 2 weeks but the pictures on the Yamaha web site of the bike shows a SAMCX or maybe it is SAMOX. It was hard to tell from the pictures. But the website log for SAMOX looks like SAMCX https://samox.com/product-category/cranks/

Need to choose hub compatible with Civante speed sensor

Oski, did you ever get the DT wheels? Do you have any idea how much lighter they are than the stock wheels?

2020 Civante Review, Initial 100 mile Impressions

Hey Oski, the crankset on the Civante is a SAMCX not a Tiagra. I went to the SAM website and cannot find any info on the crank. My bet is that a Shimano 105 crankset is going to be much lighter. You can still find 10 spd 105 double cranks for a little over $100. I emailed Yamaha to see if...

    Cassette Question

Hi all, I am looking to lighten my Yamaha Civante as much as possible while upgrading componentry to get smoother shifting. My question is, can I swap out a 10spd Tiagra Cassette for a 10spd 105 or Ultegra? The Brifters are Tiagra. I would also swap out the Tiagra rear derailleur for a 105...

2020 Civante Review, Initial 100 mile Impressions

I make it out to San Diego every 3-4 years. I would love to rent an Ebike and go riding with you Oski. What I would really like to do is take my bike out to Seattle and ride down the PCH to San Francisco.
