    Portola Thread

    Looking at the instructional video, I see you can change the PAS strength. It's in advanced settings. If it were me, I would turn this down by one number and ride the bike to notice the change. Here is a link to the manual they call it PAS Ratio on page 10. Before changing any settings, take a...

    the PAPERBOY: Light Hybrid eBike With Gaming Roots

    Looks like it never got the backing it needed and they refunded backers. Though, lots of comments asking when the backers will get their refund and if it was a scam. Bummer, I really liked the game, but not that old lady in a moomoo running me down with her rolling in. Between her and the damn...

    Display Flashing Engine Symbol

    Oh. Thats a tough position to be in. I’m glad you have a path to resolve the issue. What if you resell the bike after you have more time to fix it?

    Display Flashing Engine Symbol

    Was it the motor that had no errors while bench testing? But errors when connected to the bike? If the motor runs fine while on your test bench, then seems like the controller on the bike is the issue. Assuming the wiring to the controller is good. Since SnapCycles support page is dead and the...

    Display Flashing Engine Symbol

    You’ll get errors when you only have the display and battery plugged in. You are getting the motor error because the motor is missing. What’s the problem with the bike?

    Is MIPS necessary?

    Wow. Thats steep! If you are going 40mph, then get a motorcycle helmet. I’d be riding the brakes to keep me near 25-30mph, or find a safer route. 40mph on a bicycle is just too fast for me, but probably not for someone who is used to motorcycles. I don’t think many bicycles were meant to travel...

    Is MIPS necessary?

    I ride along side traffic as I commute to work. I went for a MIPS rated helmet. I never go more than 25mph. I'd say get a helmet for what and how you are riding. You probably dont need a fullface helmet if you are riding a trike or beach cruiser. Now, if you are a 13 year old with a Surron, get...

    Offset Saddle Adapter

    I love it! Buy it, hack it, make it better for YOU. There are so many things out there that can be morphed into better things that serve a particular purpose for YOU. Seems like this gives a bit more suspension as well.

    Controller S866

    I know this is an old post but, there are multiple models of the S866 display. This one... And this one... If I go to the P16 setting, this will reset the ODOmeter. I have the version in the top photo. The lower photo seems to be an earlier version.

    Safety Wiring { Maybe not a great title ? }

    I’ve seen other bike builds that use a dedicated 12v SLA battery for lights. This will keep the light wiring and battery totally separate from the bike and might be easier to add than to intercept pack voltage and having a 12v step down converter.

    Upgraded to lithium issue

    I can’t imagine that this new lithium battery has worse discharge than 3 12v SLA. Stranger things have happened.

    Upgraded to lithium issue

    No settings a user can change. Just the “Eco/Norm” switch. The seller is long gone. This bike is from late 90’s. OP probably already saw, but here is the manual. Kind of sounds like voltage sag that is disabling the bike. Though, a sound should be played to indicate low voltage warning. Perhaps...

    Safety Wiring { Maybe not a great title ? }

    Serious reply; I have a front and rear light wired to my ebike. They, together, pull ~4w. They run on 48v. Over a 15 minute ride, the discharge is negligible. If you want your rear tail light to also be a brake light, there are lots for that. Something like this is similar to the kit I...

    Upgraded to lithium issue

    Does the bike beep before it shuts down? That bike speaks Morse code. There should be a sticker on the motor with the wattage rating. That’s definitely a 36v bike. The 24v versions came in black and red. I have a 24v black version.
