    DYI Recumbent Tandem

The rack and pinion steering and wheel spindles are done. Worked out great, very positive control (no slop in the linkage), with built in design for "hands off" straight line wheel tracking. Couldn't be more please with the result. Also located the Stokers seat, but not quite sure of the...

    Am I a hypocrite?

There is a legal definition of what constitutes an "electric bike", regardless of opinions, and the legal definition trumps all opinions. Whether you like it (or not) in my opinion, adding a throttle to an electric bike changes the basic function of the bicycle, and in my opinion moves it into...

    Am I a hypocrite?

As I stated, it's just my opinion, and people are free to disagree, as you did. "e-snobbery", I think that's a little harsh...... "Hey , that statement get a 4 star on the hypocrite scale.... feel free to disagree" Not really. As I've stated none of my DIY's have a throttle since I don't...

    Battery Power Failure

    1) loose electrical connection. Unfortunately the connection problem could be in the battery pack. 2) bad cell or cells in the battery pack. 3) bad BMS 4) bad controller. In order of probability....... 1, 4, 2, 3 Intermittent power issues are often hard to find. Also, unfortunately, the only...

    Am I a hypocrite?

JMO......throttles should not be allowed on an e/"bike". Putting a throttle on a "bike" disqualifies it's classification as a bike. Court J.

ST2 locked up unable to unlock~

Ouch....hope you get the bike to a satisfactory working condition. Any ebike over $2.5k should be "bullet proof". It really isn't "rocket science"! Court J.

    The Need for SPEED

If you buy any bike with a Bafang mid-drive and you buy the programming cable you can set the limit to 99 kph. You can also program the amperage limit, acceleration curve and the power output per PAS level up to whatever speed you want. I have a Titanium framed 750W BBS02 with a 52V battery...

    DYI Recumbent Tandem

Update...finished building the 26" wheels for the front. I also finished the spindles and mounted the wheels and brakes. Wheels have 3 degrees of positive camber and 12 degrees of positive caster. Caster is adjustable, Camber isn't. I also have the king pin angled at 10.5 degrees so the...

    Hub motors

The tubing wall is too thin to accept a thread without reinforcement. The best method is to install a water bottle boss. Should be brazed or silver soldered or Rivnut. Probably a job for local bike shop. Court J.

    Hub motors

I have 4 BBS02 mid-drive conversions, 3 are 750W 48V and the 1st conversion I did was 500W 36V. I can assure you that the BBS02 750W kit pulls like an Ox and accelerates like a Cheetah especially if you're using the 52V Luna battery. I have over 8,000 miles on the 750W kits and around 5,000 on...

    DYI Recumbent Tandem

OK....the basic structure to support the rear wheel is done. There is 1.5" of adjustment to tension the chain without using an idler arm. The wheel pictured is 700c which I had laying around. I used it to verify the accuracy of my machined parts. Everything is true and on center-line. The...

    Got HIt By a Car

Sorry to hear you were hit....drivers rarely understand how dangerous their driving can be. In 1976 I was hauling my butt down a slight incline on Rte. 225 in Bedford mass. I was riding a Fuji Finest road bike probably doing 25 MPH and a guy driving a Ford station wagon turned left into a...

    Hub motors

Hi John, I think a few tools would be helpful. If you haven't watched it, here's an installation video that is a good reference. The C965 is all you need. If you buy the drive from Luna, their color display is nice. You don't necessarily need the programming cable, but if you want to...

    Hub motors

Hi John, That's a good bike. I used it on my 3rd DIY project, and was my primary commuting bike until I built the Titanium framed 52V 750W BBS02 this spring. In my picture it's the 2nd bike from the left. My wife uses it exclusively and the bike has around 4,000 miles, with only normal...

    Hub motors

I used a Bikes Direct Motobecane Cafe' when I did a MAC conversion two years ago. End up with a great bike. You can buy a motor installed in a wheel for around $300 from Paul. As I mentioned the only downside was the lack of integration. Not a big deal but a factor. I ended up with a CAV3...

    Hub motors

Short answer...yes. MAC is a great motor very capable and powerful. The only drawback is lack of integrated components, it's more difficult to DIY then the Bafang BBSXX. If you do the MAC I would advise a 48V set-up. Good luck! Court J.
