Hello from Montreal - and advice please.

I'd have to agree on the looks of the Stromer. Not very attractive bikes to my eye. I quite like the new Yamaha bikes, but I have no idea where to get them in Canada. The Opus WKND LRT is also a fairly nice conventional looking commuter bike. I'm envious of your Ti Brommie. Would love to...

Are Slime Sealing tubes safe ?

That's pretty much it, low pressure while avoiding pinch flats. If you don't care so much about optimal offroad traction, using a tire with an integrated puncture belt and regular tube and pumping it up to 30psi or more is plenty in my experience. I still carry tools to fix a flat though. It...

Hello from Montreal - and advice please.

Why are you only looking at Giant? There seems to be a lot of bikes in that range that are worth considering. Specialized Turbo Vado, Raleigh Redux and Detour, or Ghost and Stromer bikes available from MEC to name a few. So many options. If it's true that a second charger for a Giant is $700...

Are Slime Sealing tubes safe ?

I was mildly pro-tubeless until recently. I hit a rock and the tire went flat shortly after. I assumed the bead had unseated and was burping out air. Tried to pump it up and it went flat again (later found two small cuts in the casing). So I went ahead and put in a tube, which took much...

Tire Repair Kit tools etc suggestion

As mentioned earlier, a pair of nitrile gloves is great. Replacing tubes or fixing a chain can be filthy, greasy work. I've also started carrying one of these split tubes. The idea being that to put a new tube in you don't have to remove the wheel (I have a hub motor, fenders etc that makes...

Is it important to you that your ebike doesn’t look like an ebike?

I cringe whenever I see one of these "e-bikes" on the bike path, with their vestigial pedals sticking out. I want to scream "just get a bicycle!" A regular bike is lighter, with more available and cheaper parts, and you don't look like a dork riding a toy version of a motorcycle. Then I talk...

Is it important to you that your ebike doesn’t look like an ebike?

So many ebikes are ugly contraptions that I welcome better integration.

Cost/benefit analysis of ebiking versus driving a car

The $850 incentive has been in place for more than a year already. It just seems to be getting promoted now as part of their newly released strategy. Certainly worth it if you have a beater that suddenly blows up the engine.

Cost/benefit analysis of ebiking versus driving a car

I put together a little spreadsheet to answer this question for myself (and so I could justify getting an e-bike instead of using the half dozen regular bikes in the garage). Feel free to copy and use it for your situation. For me, the bike was saving me money immediately vs driving my car to...

Learning to ride an ebike: How ebiking skills are different from general cycling skills, and how they develop

Try practicing the moving-while-boarding technique. My favorite, and if you master it for dismounting while still moving you are instantly cool as you go from riding to walking beside your bike in one fluid motion. This guy demonstrates the boarding at the 1min mark: My lessons with a new...

Learning to ride an ebike: How ebiking skills are different from general cycling skills, and how they develop

I'm quite surprised nobody has come out with a clinometer that automatically adjusts the assist level. Really, I just want to ride with consistent speed related to pedal effort and let the motor fill in as needed to make it so. Basically flatten all the hills without me fiddling with PAS levels.

    are mid-drive mounting points standard?

Does anyone know off the top of their head if the mounting points for integrated mid-drives (Bosch, Brose, Yamaha, Shimano) is standardized at all? i.e. would a frame made to fit a Bosch also likely fit a Yamaha mid drive? Done a bit of searching but haven't found the answer yet, or been able...

Vacationing with two teenagers and four ebikes

Just to chime in on an old thread, not sure how old your teens are but if you venture up to BC the minimum age for riding an assisted bike is 16. I would be extremely surprised if anyone called you on it though, unless they drew attention by not wearing a helmet. Hopefully the laws will...
