Recommend a bike rack for ebike with fenders

According to Kuat, you don't need to crank the hook down, so putting it on top of the fender will work fine as long as the fender is reasonably well attached. https://www.etrailer.com/question-43434.html I've used these types of racks and put the hook on the tire in front of the fender and it's...

For all BC E-Bike owners, here is a Plate for your E Bike

Please provide a reference that says this (or any) plate is a legal requirement. I suspect it's more about trying not to get hassled by the police while riding what has been referred to as "mongrel" bikes that look like scooters but have useless pedals that exist solely to meet the legal...

Changing brakes pads - open bleeding port when resetting pistons?

You probably won't need to open the bleed port if both: a) the pads your are installing are no thicker than the old ones when they were new b) it's about the same temperature as when the system was filled last time. (the fluid expands when warm, and if the reservoir is completely full a...

    Admitted Faulty Product Design

I'd smear the contacts with a bit of dielectric grease. Less friction when inserting the connector, so maybe the barrel won't get pushed back, and might help if oxidation on the contacts is increasing the resistance and causing enough heat to deform the housing (you mentioned the contacts had...

60mi Round Trip Commute - Advice?

Apparently around 70lbs. That rack mounted to the swingarm makes me cringe.

    Flat Tires Perspectives: an invitation

I love CO2 canisters for quick filling, but am always a little worried about running out if the fix doesn't hold. Not sure if you've seen these before, but Gaadi makes tubes that don't require the wheel to be removed. You still need to remove the valve stem though, and then put it all back to...

    Neoprene battery cover for radrover

Batteries are always happier at room temperature, but you can expect to lose about 20% capacity at 15F. If your battery is oversized for your trip anyway, not a big deal. The critical part is not to charge it when it's below freezing. If you have a long trip, I'd think a cover would slow the...

Wondering about the front suspension forks on e-bikes

Yes, it does. Suntour recommends servicing the internals every 500hrs. Damping is the same idea as motorcycle forks for the higher quality bike forks. Generally the more you pay, the more adjustments you'll have for compression, rebound, preload, linearity, lock-out etc.

    Tern front suspension....

Yes, from pictures, it looks like the HSD has a Suntour Mobie a32 fork, cargo version. They say it comes in air and coil spring versions, but I'm not sure which is on the HSD. In either case, it would be oil damped. Ideal maintenance, as called for in the Suntour general fork manual, would be...

    Mountain or City Bike

If you can flat-foot both feet while seated, what is your leg extension like when pedalling? The Thule rack is one solution I might have to try. I cringe at adding all that unsprung weight to the rear though. It's bad enough with my hub motor back there. Right now I use a Klikfix basket on...

    Mountain or City Bike

You will not have to replace any part of the suspension. Modern shocks and forks like on a Trek Fuel are air springs, so you only need a $30 shock pump to adjust the pressure (and therefore spring rate). Everything else (rebound damping, lockout) is adjustable with the knobs. The bike shop can...

    Mountain or City Bike

Some random thoughts: -Rear suspension will greatly limit or complicate the kind of fenders, rack and luggage you can carry back there. Riese & Muller is one of the few builders I know of that has rear suspension with a great rear rack. -A city bike will have a lower bottom bracket than a...

Whos changed their disc brake pads? It's so hard!

I kinda assumed he knows if they are hydraulic or cable actuated. Hey Duke, does your caliper have a cable that moves when you squeeze the lever? If so, disregard all previous advice.

Whos changed their disc brake pads? It's so hard!

But he’s levering one piston against the other, so both are getting the same force and fluid won’t go from one side to the other. Just put the pad that was 30% in the right side and a new one in the left. That should give enough room. Check again in six months.

Whos changed their disc brake pads? It's so hard!

If your new pads are a tiny bit thicker than the previous ones when they were new, you might not have anymore room in the reservoir for the fluid to back into. Try loosening the reservoir bleed screw while you push the piston back. A little fluid will leak out, so have a rag handy to wipe it...

Using 12V lead acid to charge 36V/10ah lithium ion

Nice, and cheaper than I would've expected. You have to be very familiar with your pack max charge specs before trying to charge from another source though, or results may range from tripping the protection to creating an impressive fireball. I agree the multiple conversions, especially to...

    How old are ye, sonny?

Ooops, sorry. Did a quick search before posting but didn't find it, but now I see it when I search "poll". Oh well, vote and vote often. On second thought, I'll kill this thread. It's not contributing anything more than the previous ones other than being anonymous. <edit> can't see how to...

    How old are ye, sonny?

Ebikes have a reputation as being popular with the older crowd. In fact more than a few of my kids friends have said "my grandpa has one of those!" when they see me on it at the school. (I always reply "you must have a cool grandpa.") Just curious about the age range of the people on this forum.
