    How is your battery health?

I have a Shimano battery in my emtb (8036). My 5003 controller doesn't do the Bluetooth thing but I can get a rough idea of health by comparing the current Eco range estimate with the estimate at purchase. I don't have charge cycles but it gives me something like the following: Manufacturer...

Encinitas City Council declares emergency for e-bikes, bicycles

Haha, no. I was able to ride it to a stop. Full cream ebikes are surprisingly stable when hit from behind by carbon framed road bikes. My derailleur was the only thing knocked out a bit. I get plenty of oblivious walkers too. The proliferation of ear buds make it more challenging. I do see...

Encinitas City Council declares emergency for e-bikes, bicycles

I was hit from the rear by a roadie a few years back riding my ebike on a popular local MUP. He must have been drafting behind me up one of the climbs but I had no idea he was there, zero communication from him. I backed off my pace slightly to give some pedestrians ahead room, whack! feel the...

    Grips for Explore?

Hi Stefan, a good question from your engineers brain. The sleeves appear to be glued to the grips in my case - I've certainly tried prising them off. I could remove them but it would involve cutting the grips off, completely destroying them. I'm not quite prepared to go there until I find...

Known Issues & Problems with Giant Products + Help, Solutions & Fixes

I think this is a dealer only function but correct me if I'm wrong. Mine goes away if I ignore it long enough, it's just a suggestion after all. If it's triggering an OCD episode take it to the dealer and get them to extend the duration before it appears.

    Grips for Explore?

My 2020 Explore came with those cork Ergon style grips (see image). They're fine but a little small for my big paws to rest comfortably. I've made do for the last 3 years of ownership. I'm super happy with the bike still and plan on keeping it as long as it'll run so I figure I should get around...

    2023 EXPLORE E+ 1 GTS

I remove my fender or just wedge the front arm down on it against the fork tight when my Explore is out for a drive. Did a 2000km road trip with it last year, no issues

2023 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Another solo night ride on my local mtb trails. Weekdays are busy. Weekends aren't much better. But nights after the kids are asleep are mostly my own. I'm working on encouraging some friends to join my night rides, but for now it's just me and my lights. Riding alone at night is quite a...

    Wind speeds and your ride.

If we can swing this thread round to argue whether hub or mid drives are better in a stiff headwind we'll have the EBR trifecta™️. Good to see things haven't changed around here much 🙄 My motor render variables like gradient and fatigue non issues. Wind is one of the few factors left on my...

Auto mode, do you use it?

Great in theory but a bit laggy for my riding style and I didn't notice any appreciable range improvement. I just pick and stick these days, modulating the power delivery with pedal input. I love my torquey Yamaha motor but the Shimano and Bosch Trail and emtb modes do the auto thing a lot more...

Looking for a compatible model replacement suspension fork for a 2020 Explore e+4 ?

Thanks for the thread. My RST VIVAir that came with the 2020 E+1 leaked air since day one. It's now at the point where it needs air every week. (I should have warrantied it but the dealer swore it was behaving normally). Some great recommendations and tips here.

2023 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Well done Stefan! That's an epic undertaking. Hope you survived the crash without any lingering injuries. 90 minutes on a Sunday evening was all I could carve out for a ride this busy weekend. It's the first time I've properly done single-track solo at night. It was a blast! Slightly unnerving...

A mate got pinged $450 here in NSW for not displaying an auxiliary plate with his bike rack. Ouch.

    eMTB Options For 2024

Idle musing question for the brainstrust: at what point does one upgrade? I've been riding my emtb for about 18 months now. It's been a total blast. Got about 2000km on the bike, had a few memorable offs (no bones broken, touch wood), enjoyed seeing my skills develop from absolute MTB virgin...

2023 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

I took the long 50km way home from work today around Lake Macquarie. Treated to a rare windless evening and this glorious sunset midway through the ride. It's nice to break routine every now and again.

Front page LA Times today regarding Ebikes

But it will. I'm not arguing on the personal level. You sound like a standup citizen and I'd love to have you as a neighbor and friend. But look at the aggregate stats. What happens when more people own guns? The data and countless studies are available for anyone to peruse. Study after study...

Front page LA Times today regarding Ebikes

I hear you @JedidiahStolzfus. You speak with great humanity and compassion around genuine tragedy. If we can dispassionately step back from the partisanship, industry lobbyists positions, and questions of identity what do the stats say? The charts and link below suggests there may be a...

Front page LA Times today regarding Ebikes

I too enjoyed the fictional movie Red Dawn. It was such a great time capsule of Reagan-era Cold War paranoia. Though on the topic I guess the ultimate failure by Russia and the US to subdue a heavily armed subset of the Afghanistan population speaks to your point.

Love it! The first rule of EBR: every thread will eventually devolve into a debate about throttles. This one didn't disappoint.

Charging Ebikes on EV Charging stations

It's cool, y'all. Your best buds down under have your back. If you wanted to chip in some co-investment, that is - at the moment it's mainly Chinese companies that see the potential in our reserves. Source...
