    Motor Error

We hadn't had to clean our battery contacts for quite a while, maybe a year. Recently we've been transporting the bikes to more remote trail heads with the batteries removed. We both had issues last week with motor errors and a lack of motor power. Resetting the bike fixed the issues. I...

My wife says it's Giant Ho My wife says it's giant hogweed. She recognized the pic. Found it in Southern Living. Apparently it was originally introduced as an ornamental plant.

With the purple spots on the stems I'd guess it's hemlock/poison hemlock?

So, no takers on this 'What is it'? This bush is commonly called Pacific or Western poison oak, or just poison oak. It can grow as a shrub as in my pic or as a vine trailing up even very large trees. It's found though out California's valleys and lower foothills. Thankfully it doesn't do...

OK, 1 more pic from our Folsom/Beals Point ride. This is a "what is it"; I know it doen't look like much right now but ever since I was a kid we we were taught the rhyme, "leaves of three, let it be". What is it, and why should you "let it be"?

We've ridden Portland's water front trail with mech bikes we rented on the river front. We made a 50 miler out of it by riding out the Springwater Trail as well. Very nice, and perfect weather considering that it had been raining for 7 days straight before we got there!

Rode from Old Town Folsom, just East of Sacramento, up to Beals Point State Park on Folsom Lake, and then back down to the Johnny Cash trail past Folsom Prison. Had our sack lunches on Folsom's Humbug/Willow Creek trail. We usually do this on our mech bikes. The grade up to Beals Point goes on...

    It's fire season again

Took the electrics up to Beals Point State Park at Folsom Lake a couple of days ago. Folsom Dam was built starting in 1948 forming the lake that supplies much of the State's capital, Sacramento, with water. The water levels always drop through the Summer as it is released for the City...

At 2,600' elevation local wells don't tap ground water. My geologist wife explains that we tap into cracks in the underlying granite that allow water to flow from the high Sierras to the valleys below. Still, a 15 foot drop in static water level is a lot...😱

Saw a quote, "In California we like to mix our earth quakes with our heat waves. It's a little thing we call Shake and Bake" 🤣 101°F at our home today. No AC 'cause it never gets this warm. Warmer tomorrow. Only bike riding at dawn now.

Yep, we have what the locals call 'metered water' from the water district. They've announced 20% cutbacks. Tough for us since this only supplies the house for the 2 of us. With low flow fixtures, etc. We'll see how they react when our usage doesn't drop... We also have a well that's...

    It's fire season again

So, California's 2021 fire season if off to a fast start with 4x the average burned year-ro-date over 2020; https://www.fire.ca.gov/incidents/ On top of that, there was a 'swarm' of earth quakes along the Walker Lane fault zone. This area straddles the CA/NV border starting about 60 miles to...

Our US 2020 Vado 5's are equipped with narrow Racktime racks. Our mech bikes have standard/wider Racktime racks. We can use our Racktime accessories on either rack width by moving the prongs/pins as detailed by @Dallant . Perhaps @Stefan Mikes Euro Vado is equipped with the wider rack?

Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

We're back in Nor Cal for some cooler weather for the Summer. It still gets warm here so when it headed to 100°F we went up to Lake Tahoe Tahoe for a ride on a couple of the higher altitude trails. We've always ridden our mech bikes here, but since we sent them to Arizona, we brought our ebikes...

Yep, this 'cycle is carrying an aluminum sluice box, a green gravel screen, and a bucket with this gold panner's misc hardware. He's parked in front of a local hardware store that has an entire department dedicated to everything gold panning. With a motorcycle I imagine this panner is off to a...
