With 125% tariffs, will the e-bike market die?

Happy birthday to me today, 70.

Considerably better than the other choice; but we shouldn't go there since it has nothing to do with the price of ebikes.

Absolutely correct no gaurantees; we agree! Short term gives the whiners something to whine about though; I'm a long termer. The true advantage of being around for a few years; been there done this. This has been fun, but too many Debbie Downers.

That period is the best example of "this is no big deal". At the worst, I was down 60% in my 401k; ended the year ~40% down. With dollar cost averaging (I was still working and contributing 6%) my investment graph ($) was back on trajectory in about 1.5 years as if it never went bad. These...

Short-sited, emotional investors and algorithms create the appearance of abhorring uncertainty. Long-term logical thinkers take advantage of other's fear.

So pre-tariff product. Sounds like a positive for those shops; I bet they wish they weren't giving them away earlier this year!

    I agree, personal responsibility.

Although I am a US first supporter, best of wishes to the rest of the world. Please note it is up to each country to do what is best for themselves. I'm actually on a cruise right now, have spent time with several Canadian couples, one Irish couple, and staff from a dozen or so countries...

Got me good! Have you noticed there is a lot of emotion going on regarding the tariff thing? You don't think things are going to change 3 dozen times in the next 2 weeks? Buy some stocks that are on sale right now and enjoy life. Catch a few price swings and buy a new tariffed ebike motor.

In my opinion, only the emotional ones. This is not most investor's first time at the rodeo. If people are concerned about what is going on with the markets, they shouldn't be involved with equities. Source: Fidelity. B, S & T: Spinning Wheel. What goes up, must come down, spinning wheel...

I hope the tariffs actually reduce the spending (overall) of those that it makes a difference to. People buy too much Chinese crap they can truly do without.

    Riding without the motor

I ride unpowered most of the time; knee dependent. Also will kick it on if increased speed is needed (usually potential rain related). Unpowered "normal" speed is 12ish mph; powered normal is 15 mph, (20 used once).

Have CEOs and Wall street ever really cared about things like this? It universally applies to all importers; will soon be the new "normal". Prices go up, life goes on.

Correct, perhaps the professional is buying at a quantity discount though. Bottom line, a professional is probably not buying their bikes on the used market; would not surprise me if they had a relationship with several bike shops to take used inventory of their hands. Locally, a dealer will...

With 125% tariffs, will the e-bike market die?

Never said prices wouldn't go up. Got no idea on cost of components at wholesale or selling price of one of @PedalUma 's bikes. If he sells one he described as "better than a $4500 Vado" for $3000 and the wholesale price of Chinese components changes from $500 to $1000, the bike goes from...
