What are your plans for winter exercise? Keep riding your ebike or an exercise bike?

Walking 3 miles a day keeps me in shape for riding a bicycle.

Motor Oil On My Chain. Am I A Bad Person?

I hate a dirty chain. I suppose it would be OK for rental customers.

Motor Oil On My Chain. Am I A Bad Person?

Picked this up off of Sheldon Brown's site (bicycle mechanic, technical expert and author): "I used to use a parts cleaning tank and a toothbrush to clean chains, but Zaven Ghazarian, an excellent mechanic I used to work with, came up with a better system: drop the chain into a plastic Coke...

Motor Oil On My Chain. Am I A Bad Person?

How often are you willing to clean your chain? I do mine about onece a month. I take it off, place it in a large plastic bottle that has a wide mouth, with solvent. Put the lid back on, give it a martini shake for about five minutes and voila! Clean chain. I don't care for oily lubes as...

Motor Oil On My Chain. Am I A Bad Person?

If you heat the oil and dip the chain in it, the excess oil will run off and leave only a light but adequate coating.

Cycling to work lowers risk of death by 20%, says NIHR Census study

My son was commuting to work in Seattle for about a year but after four encounters with vehicles, one that totaled his bike and gave him a concussion he decided to take the buss instead. With two baby girls at home, he felt it was too risky.

    A Road-Cyclist Thoughts On E-Bikes

AT 73 and 69 my wife and I are die hard road cyclists, with a couple of carbon fiber clip in road bikes. We purchased two Canondale ebikes a year and a half ago and although we enjoy riding them, it is hard to find time for them and the road bikes as well. People will say, "you can get just as...

OK to ride with missing spoke?

A quick way to check your spokes is to spin the wheel and let your fingernail or a key, lightly touch the spokes. They should all give off the same ping tone.

    Elephant in the Room

When I was 5 and learning to ride I remember always looking for a nice soft grassy spot when I wanted to stop. As a teenager I went down in some gravel doing about 30 mph. That peeled some skin off. I have learned how to ride in gravel since then, very gingerly. More recently I went down on...

    Anyone gone back to acoustic?

Acoustic? I still ride my road bike if that's what you mean. My wife and I purchased electric bikes two years ago and have enjoyed them but we never gave up our road bikes. We probably ride our ebikes a couple times a month but there is something compelling about an ultra light, fast road...

What Do You Do During The Lockdown?

Being retired and living in the country on five acres, I'm doing pretty much what I always do with the exception of less going out for stuff. Lots of bike rides and walking. Plenty of projects to do on the farm. I consider myself blessed.

    Bladder range.

This was back in the day before spandex, so if you were wearing shorts, things were a little more accessible. I'll leave the rest to your imagination.

    Bladder range.

When my brother and I did a several thousand mile bicycle ride back in the seventies, we learned to pee while riding. Obviously you can't do it just anywhere. The hardest part is convincing your bladder it's OK to relax while seated on a rolling bicycle. You asked.

Riding No Handed Over 50 or 60

It comes down to some bikes being easier to no hand than others. I've had bikes I would never think of riding no handed. How about riding backwards? Now there's a talent. It took me about a week of continually falling over before I mastered it. I'll leave wheelies for another lifetime.

Help selecting comfort handlebars for eMTB - BH Rebel Lynx PWX

My area of experties is office ergonomics but the general rules hold true across the board. You want to keep your body in a neutral position when ever possible. Neutral just means that you don't want any thing to be too far out of what is considered a "normal range of motion". One of the...

Help selecting comfort handlebars for eMTB - BH Rebel Lynx PWX

One thing to watch out for is having your hands too far out to the side. If your hands are too far out, it may feel more stable but it's putting your arms out too far. The thing you want is to have your body as close to a "neutral" position as possible. "Neutral" just means keeping it within...

Do you need an optical gear display in your shifter?

I think it's sort of like learnig to use a keyboard. If you look at the keyboard when you're first learning, you will always need to look at the keyboard. Fortunately I had a typing teacher who forced us to not look and to this day, I can type without looking.

Bags / solutions to conceal a frame mounted battery?

It's always going to look like an e-bike. If your concern is theft, I would consider removing the battery. I suppose you could make a zippered sleeve for it, out of some sort of light canvas. I remember there was a button on sleve for the frame of my 1967 CT90, to conceal and protect the...

    Open discussion for winter riders.

My cut off is 40 degrees for both motorcycles and bikes of any type. We were out today and it was 42. With gloves and a heavy jacket it was comfortable.
