Just put 2.6 Johnny Watts on my RX. Quite the difference from the noisy stock 2.4 Knobblies. Handles better, feels quicker to accelerate and quite quiet too. Very nice. On my motorcycle, I would call them dual sport tires or SUV type tires.

Lugging is spinning your pedals slowly essentially. It means the motor is doing a lot of work at a low rpm. This builds heat. A faster pedalling reduces heat. Using your full throttle with high assist and pedalling slowly will overheat the motor quite quickly.

Loud and the pitch sounds completely different. I can hear the typical motor sound, then the higher pitch kicks in. Clutch binding? It sounds metallic to me. I’m sure you have checked tightness of crank arm bolts etc. Best of luck, I’m sure it will be resolved just damn inconvenience

Get your cadence “spin” up fairly high. I go for 90 rpm on hills. These motors don’t like to be lugged at high wattage inputs. We had an extremely warm summer, keeping up my spin, I’ve never had this problem again. I also never do full throttle and pedaling on hills at the same time.

Once. Fairly warm day and a long hill. I was experimenting using throttle and was in PAS5. It bogged as you describe. I also was at about 70% of my usual cadence, so ‘lugging’ the motor. My conclusion was heat. It was a busy road with fast traffic So I didn’t get to touch the Motor to feel for...
