If your bike goes into a slide, how should an older person with age-related limited mobility, respond?

It's not the falling that is the problem. It's the sudden stop at the end. Gloves are essential when you put your hands out to ease the fall. The padding on the palms takes the damage, not your skin. If you can roll when you hit the ground. The inertia of your body is dissipated with less...

If your bike goes into a slide, how should an older person with age-related limited mobility, respond?

It's not necessarily the speed of the falling off that cause the injuries. About 2 months ago, on a recreational group ride, a woman coming to a hill did not change to a low enough gear and effectively stalled. Fell with bike on top of her. Broke her ankle. Friday of last week another woman...

Ebike counting ... how many today?

I'm involved with a group of bikers who ride once or twice a week. About 60 to 70 turn out for each ride and about one third are on Ebikes. Most are retired, or over 65 and some top out at 82. Not all of the oldies are on Ebike. PS we don't have any of that BS about Class 1,2 or3 or that "can't...

[EN]abling Walk Mode for 2019 Trek bikes

I find the 'walk' mode is only useful going up a steep hill where you are walking up steps and the bike is running up the track besides the steps. Walk mode is only 4kmph and I can walk pushing the bike a lot faster than that.

Bike Mirror Options: Handlebar, Helmet, Glasses Mounted

I've had a couple of mirrors but on the mountain bike there is no kickstand so the bike has to be laid on the ground. can only use one side. When falling off you don't get to chose which side. I've also clobbered a fence or two which knocks the mirror out. Most of our railtrails have either a...

    Should wearing helmet be optional?

Wearing a helmet is compulsory here. We won't take anyone in our group unless they have a helmet and a floro jacket. Just 3 weeks ago a woman went base over apex, landed partially on the helmet but still required 5 stitches in a cut to her forehead. Helmet needed to be replaced. Fortunately we...

Carrying golf clubs on an ebike

Now all you need is a small triangular day-glow orange flag on the top. Noticed that is on a step-through bike. There could be a bit of a problem if you had to swing your leg over the seat.

Let's see your best pic of your electric bicycle

Took 26 of my riding group out to a little place called Makatu. Total distance 37k. Note the guy surfcasting in the distance. Tide must have been close to dead low water otherwise he'd have been 6' under.

    E-bikes need more exposure

The recreational group I look after will have 60 or so turn up to ride and about 40% of them are Ebikes. There is no animosity between the different types. MTB are accepted at all tracks, parks and mtb areas. I always have a peddler lead the group and I run as Tail End Charlie. That way I don't...

Calling octegenarians! Two-wheeler e-bikes and age

I mostly take my group on pavement or trails but every few weeks visit a local Mountain Bike Park where I'm comfortable up to Grade 2 or 3 (out of 6) 81 and plan on living forever. Doing pretty good so far.

Vendors and users, will you give your thoughts about ultra-visible ebike lighting?

We insist that all riders in the group wear a floro jacket usually green but then we don't ride at night.

    Can Brose motor be "de-tuned"

Check out what software your dealer can deliver the bike with. My bike as delivered would only get to 25kph. Later the software was upgraded to 32kph and a new controller which the dealer referred to as the "American" software upgrade. But then we have none of that class 1 2 or 3 crap and no-one...

Calling octegenarians! Two-wheeler e-bikes and age

Stop procrastinating. Go out and buy one NOW. I've been riding my E MTB for about 18 months, prior to that I had a non-electric MTB for a couple of years. Am involved in a recreational riding group (about 60 or 70 turn out each week) but had some hills and steps where I would run out of puff...
