How Often Do You Replace Your E-Bike Battery?

Yeah, what I’ve read suggests that you do more to lower a lithium battery’s longevity with a deep discharge than with a full charge. Of course if you need to do either, than you gotta’ do what you gotta’ do.

    Gazelle Ultimate C380 HMB

And yes, that’s one of the beauties of having a bike shop that you can deal with. Not that you’ll have any trouble with the Gazelle, but if you do you won’t have to wrench it all yourself (or in the case of an ebike wire it). :) Which model did you choose, @Rider678 ?

2025 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Lovely day for a ride today here. Finally a break from a heat wave. Yay! The link below the picture is to a video of a cool section of the rail trail. Unfortunately, EBR doesn’t seem to support streamable as a media source. Weird. Anyway, hope you guys can follow it...

    “No e-bikes allowed”

I will only say that (some) yahoo motorists on the back roads of central MA are not friendly. Still wouldn’t deter me if I were on a quest like the OP.

    “No e-bikes allowed”

I presume that you bought the bike used, Charge, (3 years old)? Otherwise I would guess that Specialized would exchange it? Nasty? And, yeah, guys… most structures around the US have outdoor power receptacles. The whole trick for the OP is to find safe routes and bike-friendly...

    “No e-bikes allowed”

Ambitious undertaking, Wally! Good on you! I think you have a right to be concerned about these things, but I suspect you’ll be staying off the interstate hotel/accommodation ecosystem and will therefore likely be welcomed along as you make this journey. There may be software to help you plan...

2015 ejoe Koda battery/motor/ controller question

I wonder if it’s blinking a code at you, @hondasi88 Once upon a time on-board diagnostics (OBD) in cars used to do that. Maybe the controller is trying to tell you something. Dunno. I’ll bet there’s some sensor feedback expected at the controller, like speed or cadence, that needs to be...

2015 ejoe Koda battery/motor/ controller question

Is it this bike? If so, are you sure about the voltage? I.e., 36V will be undervoltage for this model. Anyway, best wishes in diagnosing. It’d really be best if you could test with a working (stock) battery as many things could be wrong other than the battery (as Gionni pointed out).

splicing Julet 4 pin tail light cable

Yeah, more s*it to worry about, right Spoke? My Star Union taillight takes a couple of AAs. It was stock with Fättie. It either blinks or it’s solid. There’s no connection to the braking system (which is a little unfortunate). I don’t use rechargeables, so I just replace when the thing goes...

My DIY builds: GMAC, BBSHD, 9C RH212, CYC Photon, ToSeven DM01, Grin All Axle

link, I know you’re very experienced at this, but sometimes I find people forget or get caught off guard… Have you checked your spokes? It’s easy to mistake a rhythmic ticking from the hub as a motor problem when it’s just unbalanced spokes shifting around in the hub.

Electronic shifting on Turbo Vado 5.0 (not SL)

Can’t offer any experience or advice, Stan, but I’ve heard quite a lot of praises sung toward electronic shifters (and especially wireless controls for same). My friend who competes and rides extensively swears by them. Of course, he’s a bike store owner and maybe he’s a little jaded toward...

    Escaping th ebike restrictions

Brian, good luck with your efforts, whatever you choose to do. I know what I would do in your situation, not that it’s relevant (hint: I fought a mountain bike speeding ticket years ago in Marin). :) Dave, that’s good to know that Michigan allows this exemption. Totally makes sense. There...

splicing Julet 4 pin tail light cable

Or, another option, spoke, is to cap/disconnect the wire and use a battery-powered (self) tail light instead. That’s (unfortunately) what I have on my Juiced RipCurrent. Juiced had an upgraded controller with a powered tail light, and that was great, but I had to revert to the stock controller...
