    Amazon vs dealer

What kind of dealer are you talking about? I have yet to see DIY kits at a LBS.

    Who owns your Bosch motor?

What would you modify on a Bafang motor if you wanted to? I'm 8,400 miles in on my Bosch/Haibike Trekking. Never been updated, never been back to the shop. I still don't see an issue of a locked system except for those with the stick it to the man attitude.

Geared or not geared That is the question

Gear drive has more starting torque, direct drive has fewer parts and the possibility of regenerative braking. Not the best time to ask after you bought the parts.

    New bike - Honeywell

I think the industry is going to proprietary protocol language between the display and controller to sell more replacement parts. But I have no direct information on your hardware.

Bosch, Shimano or Bafang motor on etrike?

On the Bosch, that 250w becomes over 500w at max assist. Make sure you get a real full suspension and not some kind of cheap spring system. My Fat Tad is advertised as a full suspension and the front has such harsh springs and little travel, it will rattle your teeth if you hit a pot hole.

    Using a kid's trail-a-bike with the XP 3.0?

I'm certain you would want to keep the speed down to around 10mph and take corners even slower. Personally I would never do it. Never used one, but always wondered about how wonky they get in a turn.

    Looking for minimalist, "undercover" ebike?

This is as minimalist as I wanted to go. I still wanted the range so sacrifice the look of the battery pack. This thing is as fun of ride as I have. At 38 pounds it is one quick class 1. 2020 BMC Ampenchallenge City Ltd.

    UL Certified Ebikes

If you look at the UL certification shown in the original post, it says the electrical systems for E-Bicycles. Not models of eBikes, just components. It's improper for the companies to display a UL sticker on the frame.

    UL Certified Ebikes

I'm highly suspicious that the entire ebike is UL approved. I designed explosion proof electrical systems for turbine engine natural gas compressors. We traveled to UL to discuss our systems and testing. They explained they are component testers, not system wide testers.

Raising handlebars on Vintage Electric Cafe e-bike?

I changed handlebars on my Ruffian to relieve back pain. I found a narrower and taller bar so I got the lift I wanted and all the brake hoses and wiring were just fine.

Bike ‘slipped’ when turning corner, twice!

Tire quality/compound and inflation can be 2 big factors. There there is road or street condition. Around here the first few hours after a rain can be really slippery because of oil on the streets from leaking cars. Water and oil make for a skating rink.

Blow outs with Schwalbe Marathon winter plus

Seems like terms in Europe are different on that too. A blowout is an instant failure of the tube and/or tire. It's not the tire coming off the rim while inflating. A good technique is to put just a little air in and get the tire centered and in place. Inflate a little more and check it, then...

What kind of e-bikes do thieves prefer?

You really think people in this group think like bicycle thieves? There were 190,000 bicycle thefts reported last year in the US. One of my good friends had a car stolen. They found the $5,000 traditional road bicycle thrown in a ditch with some of his clothes. I get the idea that thieves don't...

    torque sensing vs gear sensor

I think he is asking about shift sensing Harry, but maybe not. I think you just need to easy up on the throttle when you shift Duck and shift it like a bicycle instead of a motorcycle. I'm led to believe this will decrease any jarring with shift changes

    Seat Surprise (WTF?)

Are you sure someone didn't try to steal it? Our son rode a clunker to his train station each day. Came home one day to see the seat missing.

Want to mount downtube battery to rear rack...

Those are pretty small connectors. I have those on one of my battery packs for charging. I used XT 90 connectors for the main current. Keep an eye on them for signs of melting.
