A physical metal tool rubbing against the metal of the contact is abrasive to some degree or other. Not saying it's taking a large amount of metal off, but it is abrasion by definition (the word means rubbing with friction). I bet you never thought of sex as abrasion, have you? o_O Gentle...

On my ebike, the gearing isn't as low as on my regular bike. So the ebike feels like a slug when trying to go up even a modest incline, because I can't shift far enough for mechanical advantage. Try before you buy is good advice.

Deoxit is a great contact cleaner that takes the oxidation off the surface and leaves a protective film. Less wear on the contact with Deoxit than from a mechanical abrasion.
