Is anyone trying to solve charging on the road?

How is that begging to differ? I wasn't saying you didn't do it right on your first try, I was saying that had I gone all-out on my first try I wouldn't have ended up with the same bike I'm hoping to get now. I was well researched, and I frequently help customers get e-bikes that they're very...

Will ebikes really lead the EV revolution?

I think it changes a great deal from one community to another. Areas with a history of bicycles being used for transportation, like where I live, are seeing a huge take-up of e-bikes for transportation. A significant proportion of our e-bike sales are to commuters. It's complementing and...

Is anyone trying to solve charging on the road?

I have worked in a bike shop for 15 years, and sole e-bikes that entire time. Lack of research wasn't my issue. Time on the bike is the best teacher. And yes, this thread seems to not want to stay on topic! :P

Is anyone trying to solve charging on the road?

But the bike I've now decided I want isn't the one that I would have bought initially if I'd pulled out all the stops, though. I'm no psychic, how am I to know that in advance of riding them extensively? Doing a conversion of a muscle bike doesn't appeal to me either. The net weight would be...

Is anyone trying to solve charging on the road?

I started with an iZip E3 Path Plus, a 55 pounds bike including fenders, rack, and lights. I then got (and still have) a Haibike XDURO Race S 6.0, but didn't include it in the list as it's not really intended for transportation. It's a fun and fitness bike, mostly. But it impressively weighs...

Is anyone trying to solve charging on the road?

I live on Vancouver Island which, if you look at it on a map, is relatively tall and is mostly populated on its East side. Whether I'm riding up-island and back, or whether I'm going partway up-island then detouring to the mainland, most long trips start the same way, with a 100km ride heading...

Electric Bike Companies That Have Gone Out Of Business

Anecdotally, bike suppliers are telling me that both Bosch and Shimano are struggling to meet the high demand that they're seeing for e-bike product, and that bike suppliers are having to commit well ahead of time to get product out of either of them. I can't quantify how that compares to...

Is anyone trying to solve charging on the road?

The 500Wh packs are often in the 13-15 Ah range each, though, so two might be a closer comparison. What's the Wh rating of this infamous 30 Ah pack of which you speak? Since I sometimes can pre-seed a route with batteries (leaving them with friends, relatives, and with businesses I have a...

Steps E6000 W012 (torque) error -- fix & keep, or return?

Fair enough. I find with a powerful mid-drive on a lightweight bike, you can barely turn over the pedals and still go like stink. I've gone for bike rides when I've been exhausted, when I've been fighting a cold, you name it. I don't work up any kind of a sweat if I don't want to, and still...

Steps E6000 W012 (torque) error -- fix & keep, or return?

Dang. This particular solution only works with the E8000 motor. So you'll need a different bike. From my first post in this thread: "... if you're willing to splurge for a bike with an E8000 motor, then there's a software-only option that lets you not only set the maximum speed up to 60...

Electric Bike Companies That Have Gone Out Of Business

We used to sell BionX, but thankfully we'd sold all of our BionX products some time prior to them going out of business. I'd be curious to learn more about Bafang reportedly stealing a Sunstar design.

Electric Bike Companies That Have Gone Out Of Business

Accell North America was the Canadian/U.S. distributor of Raleigh, iZip, Redline, Diamondback, and Haibike. Accell NA wasn't technically e-bike only, but they were heavy into e-bikes, and primarily focused on growing their e-bike business. The North American division bled money until their...

Do you have a bike with an E8000 motor? If so, which model of screen do you have?

Is anyone trying to solve charging on the road?

I'm glad I was able to help simplify things. :) I haven't spent a lot of time riding at the speeds you asked about, but I hope to do a longer/slower ride at a lower level of assist (with the max cut-out set at 25 km/h, which is close to 15 mph). Sometime this month, if the weather holds and I...

Steps E6000 W012 (torque) error -- fix & keep, or return?

You don't use Shimano software, you use unofficial software. I know of two such packages, eMax and STunlocker. But what's different here is that they don't appear to be fooling the system, they appear to be unlocking hidden settings in the system. That's why it shows the proper speed on the...

Is anyone trying to solve charging on the road?

Both are true. Charging above 80% reduces a battery's life, and keeping it there for a while further reduces its life. Leaving it charged above 80% is more damaging than charging it above 80%. There is no debate that babying a battery will give you extra service life from it. However, there...

Steps E6000 W012 (torque) error -- fix & keep, or return?

Since no one else has replied, I thought I'd share what I've learned. I don't know of any throttle hacks for Shimano, no. As to the tuning side of the discussion... if you're willing to splurge for a bike with an E8000 motor, then there's a software-only option that lets you not only set the...

Things I learned (or think I've learned) doing e-bike travel this past summer

Fast charging is an advantage of a larger pack, moreso than a quality pack, from what I understand. A very high quality pack that's too small wouldn't withstand faster charging as well as a very large pack of medium quality, I believe.

Things I learned (or think I've learned) doing e-bike travel this past summer

Probably true, and if I knew a way to hook one up to my e-bike I'd strongly consider trying one out. Until recently I'd been using a Brose motor, and right now I'm using an Shimano E8000 motor. I'm content with multiple batteries if they're small and lightweight enough, though. I haven't the...

Things I learned (or think I've learned) doing e-bike travel this past summer

I observe this meticulously during my day-to-day riding. I also typically wait at least a half an hour after a ride in cold weather to let the battery come up to room temperature before I start charging. I also typically charge with the slowest charger I have available. But all the rules can...
