    2016 Turbo S vs 2016 Stromer St2

The regen is not especially intuitive. It requires you to engage it manually. The older Turbo S used to have it on the brakes like the Stromer, but that feature got removed in favour of standard brake levers. Regen really adds very little to the range (maybe 2-4%). Some say "but it saves the...

    2016 Turbo S vs 2016 Stromer St2

Only you know what is more important to you: Speed and agility of the Turbo S vs Bells&Whistles of an ST2. I'd not necessarily trust anyone's range estimates. The motor types are similar and you'll use very similar amounts of energy for a given ride at the same speed. So really the difference...

    Tyres for the Turbo

Compared to the slicks. I bought mine from Bike24 in Germany. Hard to find here in the right sizes.

    Tyres for the Turbo

I have Energizer Plus with 5000km on them. No signs of wear, no punctures, nice ride feel. I ride 50-55 psi. Only negative is that they are not as good in the wet as the Specialized tyres that came on the bike. A minor compromise.

    Turbo S battery error

You may as well get the 691Wh battery, more is always better with batteries. If replacing it causes the speed limit to come on, complain and get it unset. It's a few seconds job with the diagnostic kit. They might have to plug it in, go to the appropriate screen and 'turn away' for a few seconds...

Turbo Owners -- What's your total mileage? [OFFICIAL MILEAGE THREAD]

6700km since July 2016. Original base Turbo battery with S motor (warranty replacement after hub cracked). Schwalbe Energizer tyres 700c/47 have done over 4500kms with barely any signs of wear. Koolstop pads have done 3500kms. Still good. Replaced chain at 6500km.

    Service cassette freehub anyone?

It's quite easy. You need a cone spanner (very thin spanner, about 17mm) to loosen the end cap. It all comes apart quite easily thereafter. Thinks its DT Swiss internals (not surprising really).

Musings on the impact of speed on range

I found with the base Turbo motor that going hard-out conserved battery. My explanation is that I am adding more energy per distance travelled than if I had been pedalling moderately, and the motor 'gives up' around 42-43kph. Of course tooling along at normal bike speeds is ultimately low...

    The new turbo Vado 2017

The C1 brakes stock pads are awful (squeal like a freight train) and replacements are quite hard to find. They are also very difficult to align properly and tend to make odd noises which detracts from the whole stealthy-zombie-avoiding experience. Once you have the right pads they are 'OK' with...

Wish your Turbo S had front suspension?

Yikes. My only other "helpful" advice is to move to a warmer and drier place so that you can ride your bike. ;-)

    The new turbo Vado 2017

Good buying @Embra - I am sure you will be pleased. I reckon a better bike at $3k run-out pricing than the entry-level new model. The 250W motor is a good one, quite a bit nicer than the base Turbo.

Wish your Turbo S had front suspension?

@OldGuy you know you and your bike are waterproof, right? Having ridden in torrential rain (50mm=2"/hr) on Friday evening... It is apparently summer here but nobody told the weather.

Wish your Turbo S had front suspension?

@OldGuy How is your 'long term' experience with the Redshift Shockstop? Still considering it now that I know I'll be keeping my bike for a few years. Otherwise I can do a suspension fork for about 50% more. Redshit's international shipping is hideously expensive.

    Some unusual accessories

My philosophy about bikes is: buy the one that suits you best, not the one that someone told you is the best and then have to 'hack' it. Because what's best for them may not be best for you. The Turbo has a specific niche - fast commuter. The X is a bit more versatile - fast tourer - but we...

    2014 Turbo S vs 2016 base Turbo

@Douglas Ruby has offered good advice. Having had both motors in my base Turbo, the S motor (250W) is that much nicer ~20% more powerful and the difference is quite noticeable. My 468Wh battery was made in 2014 anyway which is probably the case for all new 2016 base Turbos. If you can get the...

    Shimano STePS

BTW it is true that a E014 error on the STEPS system can be cured by a few minutes of riding around. Sucks that they do this in the first place, because it's a nice motor system over 25kph.

    Some unusual accessories

I just had to post this picture of a Turbo I saw on the street in Auckland New Zealand. Apologies if this is your bike, but I've never seen a beautiful bike so uglified - look at that saddle! You can't properly see the mess on the handlebars. I'm sure it's all very practical, but ... this should...

    The new turbo Vado 2017

Sounds about right @Embra If you can get a Turbo X at a good price ($2.5k) through your LBS and you want it now, I'd say its a really good bike (apart from those !^#%$# Formula C1 brakes). From what I can ascertain, the Vados will start at about USD3000 which might give you a similar spec to a...
