Can't Get My New Urtopia Bike to Work

I believe there's an app for that. With the app, your smartphone can tell the bike your fingerprint or just turn the bike on. There's an app for my Abound. I downloaded it to my phone but didn't mess with it.

Riding Shoes; In Search of Something Better *Update!

Barefoot! A year ago I spent $30 on a pair of Whitun Barefoot shoes. No heel cushioning.... who needs it? I'll switch to industrial shoes if I might step on a nail sticking out of a board or drop a cement block on my toe, but the thin, tough rubber soles and leather-like canvas uppers are...

15 MPH E-bike and Scooter speed limit announced for NY City by Mayor Adams

Does Eric Adams have the authority to criminalize what was lawful? Is NYC a dictatorship? In 2023 the NYT published an article saying e-bikes should be banned because there had been 23 deaths in 2022. (In a city of 8 million.) The accompanying chart showed that 23 bicycle fatalities a year had...

Three Years with my RadMission, new brake pads

I also bought a Radmission in the 2022 sale, and I love the way it rides, after I raised the handlebars and moved the seat back. I wish the wheelbase were a little longer and that it had a gearshift so I could manage more hills without motor assistance. I'd never liked the OE tires on my...

Wow! ... and using a roller with a pail on a ladder! I haven't done ceilings in 34 years, and I need to do it again. I seem to recall cutting in with a 2.5" brush and doing the middle with a Wagner device that used D cells for a pump that sent paint to a roller. Maybe I still have it.

I was high on a ladder painting my aunt's dairy barn when the bull approached. By his ears, he appeared to be on the verge of violent anger. I froze. He calmed down and went about his business. That barn was a lot of square feet, but I didn't know how to use a roller on an extension ladder. I've...

    Handlebar alignment

After I worked on my Abound, the handlebars felt misaligned. I'd always found aligning ebike handlebars a hassle. This one was especially bad. From behind the handlebars, the wide battery box hid the wheel. Handlebars were adjusted by turning the stem, but loosening the pinch clamp allowed the...

Did you find the cause? Fatigue can blow fuses. It can get a no-name fuse sooner and a reputable brand later. If the replacement fuse blows soon, then there's probably a circuit problem.

We used to heat 2500 square feet by wood. My favorite maul was like this. They call it 12 pounds but it weighs 15. For kindling I used a smaller maul and a 2-pound hatchet. The back view shows how decrepit the old axe heads were. I wondered why my grandfather hadn't discarded them. in the...

I don’t know how old these axe heads are. I think similar ones have been produced since the 1600’s. The 3-pounder is pitted 6mm deep. The 4-pounder is also badly pitted. Six years ago, I put edges on them, knowing they'd never be fit to use. The handles were a mystery. They showed no...

If you knew the watts the USB fan used and assumed the voltage step-down (whatever it's called) is 100% efficient, I guess you could calculate battery amps. The advantage to @6zfshdb 's board is that he can measure the amps and use a combination of bulbs to get what he wants. I don't see how a...

Your USB fan won't do those things. I don't know much about BMS, but maybe a wall wart would wake one up. Amazon ships devices only to the address on my charge card, so why would I want to charge them when I was in the boonies? ;) In the 70s, I had a friend who was a custodian. He loved...

Without a USB port, a table lamp with an incandescent bulb would probably do the trick. You'd establish a good connection with the battery, then switch on the lamp. A 60-watt bulb would pull 0.5 amp at 120 volts and of course less at 48 volts, maybe .25 amp Incandescent bulbs are getting scarce.

Can someone explain to me e-bike maintenance

I used to do that in the 1950s. A gas soak would clean a chain without brushing. I'd hang it to dry before oiling, then hang it to drip before installing. Four years ago I switched to a so-called dry lube because with no chain guard, my pants were getting grimy. I learned to apply it with a...

In Alaska in 1971, I volunteered. They issued us 10¢ canteens, first-aid kits, sleeping bags, polyethylene sheets for tents and ground cloths, clothes line, and hard hats. They flew us to the smoke jumper camp at McGrath. It was in the 90s by day and didn't get much colder in the brief nights...

I bought this 64 ounce hammer 6 years ago to cut stumps flush with the ground. Using a framer's hatchet as a chisel was better than damaging a chain saw, but a claw hammer would have had to be swung faster, and a faster impact increases damage and danger. Also, a heavier hammer is better at...

Walmart has the Crescent slide-hammer puller for $40 and $80, depending on the vender. Amazon has other brands, ranging from $37 to $97. I wished my Radrunner battery had a handle. It was mounted between the seat tube and the back fender, so I couldn't use two hands. As I feared, I lost my grip...

Me too! A flat pry bar might budge the boards, and a cat paw could be driven under flush heads, but is it worth it? Mostly, I've sawed off the short lengths of slats. They're good as shims, for example to keep a four-footed A ladder from rocking or to keep an extension ladder plumb. I found...

I passed on the Knipex because of reported quality problems. Then I found that Knipex designed them for a specific purpose: snipping the wires used to tie rebar at crossing points. I bought a Bates version for $5. I discovered that it can't catch a nail as close to the surface as other types...
