New motor: Made in Canada, 2022 Mid-drive system

That technically is a fact. It's also a fact that performance for the same motor will be identical to the traditional mid-drive layout being stuck in a single gear.

New motor: Made in Canada, 2022 Mid-drive system

I know, the problem was the point was wrong, even in theory. ;) It's math. You can't avoid it by swapping sides and eliminating cogs.

New motor: Made in Canada, 2022 Mid-drive system

Thanks Deafcat, do you have comparative torque/power curves for the motor? Is it capable of substantially higher RPM than the Ultra when using a 48V battery?

New motor: Made in Canada, 2022 Mid-drive system

Somebody may have a misconception alright, but it's not me. The ability of a motor to provide torque to the rear wheel through gearing has nothing to do with the rider's pedaling. The Ultra motor simply does not have a broad enough torque curve over a large enough RPM range to climb the...

New motor: Made in Canada, 2022 Mid-drive system

A very interesting concept, one that would certainly take care of the drivetrain wear issues of a typical mid-drive. But it is also giving up the benefits of the gears of that drivetrain. I can see how this would result in little to no performance compromise for an offroad bike running 2500...

    Motobecane eMulekick PRO SL review

Where did you get that idea? I've gotten tons of stuff from Aliexpress over the last year or so, shipped to Washington. From little trinkets to really expensive stuff--an entire Ebike, carbon wheels, etc. Just had another set of carbon wheels delivered last week.

What size of rear axel is needed?

197mm is you hub width, your axle will be longer. The first thing you need to do is pull your current axle out and look at it. Quite often the size is printed right on it: There you can see the total length, thread length and thread pitch. You can then go to here...

Police - questioning the power rating of your E-bike? or Ticketing you?

The fear is certainly justified between your ears. We know that much for sure. If you have any statistically significant data to share that agrees with what's between your ears, please do share it.

Police - questioning the power rating of your E-bike? or Ticketing you?

That's not surprising. I go the extra mile and completely remove the throttle and leave it at home. Slap a class one sticker on it and you should be good to go. Many state laws specifically allow this as being fully legal.

    My UC Pro has arrived

Yikes. Uhm, no. That's not how it works. There's no such thing as a "static torque exception" in the Engineering world. Torque is torque. There is no distinction between them. Moving or not it's the same thing. The reaction to it is what determines if there's movement or not. That's a...

    My UC Pro has arrived

Wow, looks like I have some catching up to do in this thread. While so difficult to read I often skip them, this one needs to be addressed. If somebody is talking about cranks on Bafang motors, does not specify an aftermarket brand name and model, and shows a picture directly from Bafang of...

    My UC Pro has arrived

It was quite an adventure, but I wasn't ever cold (sweating profusely actually)! I hear ya. I've got a set of 100mm wide carbons on the way as well, shipped about three weeks ago. Unfortunately, I don't expect them to show up while there's still any hope of good snow riding conditions...

    Luna Z1 - First impressions

Yeah, that was the original plan. I think I'll cross-post the above into the Frey thread linked above when I get a chance. I'm glad you guys like it! Yeah, the tune certainly helps for that. As mentioned above, lowering the LVC and making the lower PAS modes much less powerful should keep...

DIY EBIKE MTB FRAMES for M600

Personally, I don't really like that frame though. I don't understand where you'd need all that rear suspension travel where you wouldn't also want a head angle way slacker than 71 degrees. Also, 30.9 seat tube diameter narrows your choice of droppers.

What do you HATE about your fat tires?

But I see shopping carts all over the streets and sidewalks these days. Do you mean to tell me these people aren't shopping for bicycle parts?

    FlatOut and -9F, Comedy Gold

Tubeless works fine in cold weather. Just use the right sealant. Orange Seal Subzero is very popular in the fatbike world for a reason. Works down to -20 F.

What do you HATE about your fat tires?

Maybe it would have helped to start the thread with the specific problem you are having instead of a generalized question. People could offer help with more specifics--what bike, tire size, tire type, etc. Many here have infinitely more miles than me riding city streets so they may have more...

What do you HATE about your fat tires?

I like talking about the "full on eMTB fat tire" type of bikes because that's what interests me. However, this board is largely commuterbike-centric, so clearly different people are talking about different things. While I do wish there were more, there are full on eMTB bikes out there, several...

What do you HATE about your fat tires?

I can't help you with full length like seen on commuter bikes, but I can vouch for the Fathuggers being good. They're very tough, thick plastic and being plastic, they're very easy to modify as needed and will cover 5" wide tires. I use a front on the front and rear. While not "full length,"...

What do you HATE about your fat tires?

WA state and Montana. I think NV sounds like fun. Fat bikes are great for desert riding. I love watching videos from these guys: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmb_LiOZdtgWLgN9ygQCG-g I just noticed, they picked up an SN04 (that's my non-E fat bike)!
