    2022 - Top 12 Bafang Ultra M620 Ebikes

Yeah, I'd have to include the Frey AM1000 v5 alongside the CC, in that list... Similar spec & price, but larger 48V@21Ah battery. (The v6 has great parts too, but I prefer the v5's top-loading battery style & believe it's more adaptable.) Actually, even after recent industry price hikes, Frey...

    Replacement tires?

I will second the assertion that "off-road" tires can offer additional utility where road tires slip around. Here in Denver, there's enough gravel & split asphalt to make me glad of riding off-road tires, despite all their downsides (drag, noise, treadwear). Personally, I find putting slime in...

    The new AM1000 V6

If I could get a custom frame made locally & order everything else through Frey, I think maybe I'd be in heaven? I'm loving what they've put together. Great components & a good price.

    The new AM1000 V6

I do agree that a top-loading battery is preferable, especially with regard to compatibility. (I also find the idea of a hanging battery... unsettling.) I mostly wish for an AM1000 v5 or CC type frame, with front rack mounting points on the steerer tube, & rear rack mounting points on the back...

Any word on this? Are you still waiting? (Got an AM1000 v5, serving well so far.)

Bafang Ultra "Smooth" tune by Mike at Frey

I think you massively overestimate the ostensible improvements offered by a CANBus. Interoperability is in no way reliant on the (risky) centralization of all components to a single communications chain; in many ways UART signaling is the more open standard. The primary motivations for CANBus...

Bafang Ultra "Smooth" tune by Mike at Frey

Naw, it's not "tuned" from Bafang at all. The torque sensor cannot ever read below ~700mV, but the detection starts at 0mV by default. That's literally tossing the first 1/4 of the torque sensor's range in the garbage, & detecting any pedal movement as ~12 "Kg" of pedal force. Additionally...

Bafang Ultra "Smooth" tune by Mike at Frey

!?! Hmmmm... The throttle? Works from dead stop on mine. There is no such setting in the Bafang Config Tool / Frey Config Tool. If you mean pedal assist from dead stop, that won't happen either unless you trick the speed sensor: The pedals must go around before pedal assist will kick in...

Bafang Ultra "Smooth" tune by Mike at Frey

Possibly? Does the display connect with a round connector near the handlebars, or is it a "house shaped" / "squarish D shaped" connector? The UART controllers have been using round plugs; the CANBus controllers seem to all have squarish plugs.

Bafang Ultra "Smooth" tune by Mike at Frey

Agreed. It would be great if the new CANBus signalled controllers reached the same (or greater) level of programmability as the UART controllers. People buying motors direct from Bafang have already reported getting these CANBus motors; while the Frey AM1000 we just received still has a UART...

I don't think the EX is heavier, actually? (Also, we ordered the AM1000 with a rear-rack even though it mounts to the rear triangle. Unfortunately, I am excessively tall & weigh a lot, with a lot of crank force at some times & very little at others. It's unlikely my settings would be ideal for...

Answers to COM3@9600 baud, anyway... As to UART vs CANBus, it has the "UART type" round connectors, not the "new type" D-shaped/house-shaped connectors, so... I guess, yes it appears to be using UART communication. I've seen posts stating that Bafang's new CANBus-only motor controllers use the...

A balance charger monitors each cell in a battery, charging them individually. Not all batteries are pre-wired for one, & I don't know what I might need, to balance these. (If I were going to open them up, I'd make a 53V or 60V pack!) Balance charging is best practice in the long run though, so...

The AM1000 arrived today! Box was not scarred much at all (damage\loss in shipping was one of my worries). Everything inside was wrapped & packed very well, including our second battery. No instructions whatsoever except for the Magura brakes! Need a shock pump & a balance charger, to make...

I suspect our bikes were on the same ship! (I noted that the shipping label on the way to port, listed 3 bikes not 1.) FedEx logged the package 2021-10-08 (Fri) 4:29pm, & estimated an expected delivery date of 2021-10-13 (Wed), now listed as "Potentially Early" 2021-10-11 (Mon)! Not bad for...

Who is selling unbadged Frey bikes?

This "Mind Reader" feels like now you're just trolling. Are you trying to draw me into saying Frey makes good frames? Because I don't know that, & until we see how many break out of the next thousand, I don't think anyone really does, especially if that person's research stops at "china =...

Oh ship! A cargo vessel carrying the AM1000 I ordered, is scheduled to depart tomorrow; expected to arrive at a port in California by the 12th. (Shorter travel time, or just two estimates for the same trip???) The ebike was originally scheduled to ship by Oct 16th, so I'm feeling pretty good...

    CC Upgrades and options.

Agreed with brake034 here: you seem to be posting this picture all over the place, it isn't even your pic or your bike, & you don't link to the post of the person whose bike it is, nor their later post mentioning that Frey followed up with them. Bike frames from any manufacturer have a...
