On your point of Bafang, Aventon isn't using a Bafang, they teamed with another company to develop the motor. Which makes it a beta version bike. Seeing the range and power of the Aventon though is a tough time passing on if I wasn't going to be doing bombing runs down a singletrack.

Jump to the 4:56 part on PAS strength settings. It may help even things out. But changing each assist level is not something you can do on the bike. If you unlocked it to go 28 mph, the option would be to reset it back to 20 to see if it changes things.

Handle bar position is fine on it for me. It is an upright position.

I am 5'10" and have the portola. It is comfortable to ride, my issue is coming from a bike with wide handlebars to the Portola and it feels twitchy to me. I am sure if I rode it more that feeling would go away. But it is a spare for the kids so they can ride with me.
