Same here. Oddly enough, haven't heard anyone use "locals season", but I'm totally stealing it. Between the low population and the best-all-year weather, October's just spectacular here! October was also the best month by far in Colorado. Sure wish I'd been smart enough to ride an ebike when we...

    2025 Vuelta a Espana

Just a reminder that the Vuelta a Espana, the 3rd and final Grand Tour of the year, will start on August 23. Peacock will be streaming it live in the US. Wish ITV were covering it, but I guess they're kaput now. @Rás Cnoic ? Just read that Pogacar will be sitting this one out, but Almeida will...

    the math of hill climbing

Strong work here! Glad to see that the Gribble calculator checks out against some credible real-world data. My own spreadsheet model of these things checks out with Gribble but generally not with the more often cited bikecalculator.com. You're right: This stuff isn't rocket science. The...

That would be quite a sight! Most of the sea cliff damage leading to cliff retreat (5 cm/yr on average all along the CA coast) comes from sand- and cobble-laden storm waves scoring direct hits on the cliff faces at high tide. Usually during just a few big winter Pacific storms per year. Puts on...

Exploring near home by ebike K wanted to ride last Sunday, but we're in high tourist season now, and the Coast Highway's a madhouse on weekends. So we knocked around inland, looking for new places to explore. One unexpected find at a nearby shopping center we go to often: A great new coffee...

Gorgeous photos! Your rounded beach cobbles are a lot bigger than our fist-sized versions. But you're gonna have to explain the 6th one up with the pinwheel of sticks on a white knob and wall. No clue.

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

The bike came with organic pads, but all the replacements have been semi-metallic. The only squealing I get is from time spent close to the water. Guessing it's the microspic water droplets and salt crystals the surf throws into the sea breeze. May not be visible right where you're...

Exactly what happened to both my brakes, rear first and now front. And yes, they did all that at the shop both times. (With no previous disc brake experience, not brave enough to do my own brake work in this hilly area.)

Just watched the video of your beach date with Floris on YouTube — what an exhilarating ride! And just the man to bring us back footage. How many times, when the sand-filled wind blew you to a halt, did you think, "Whose idea was this, anyway?!"

Now that I don't bounce so well, I generally prefer light-colored bikes for visibility. But have to admit, black with red accents is hard to beat.

Thanks! Yes, in both instances, the lever very gradually went soft (frog in pot effect), but the service visit was finally triggered by one pad dragging on its rotor. Thanks to the growing consensus about the abnormal bleeding frequency, I'm going to press hard on that issue.

Exactly my concern. Maybe I'm unmasking a subtle leak.

Kudos for testing — as opposed to just reading — your way through this complex purchase. How many of the really decisive observations could you have gleaned from product pages and online reviews? Probably not many.

Thanks! The bleeding is the part that worries me. Will ask the mechanic what pads he prefers for my bike. Certain they're quality pads. Yes, doesn't rain often here. Mainly a winter phenomenon, but didn't get much last winter, either. Yes, bleeding and pads not included in the warranty. But if...

Scraping front brake on my SL 1 had to be bled and repadded after some very heavy use in the last few days. Closing in on 1 year and 3,000 mi in pretty hilly terrain. Same happened to the much more used rear brake 5-6 months ago. Q1. Is this normal? Q2. Should I be pushing for more than...

What a lovely ride and video! Pretty clear why gravel's so popular there. Wish I had a gravel network like that to ride, but too many physical barriers in my rugged SoCal terrain, and all the longer routes through it have been paved. As for the startled cow, why on earth did that rider put...
