Bafang to Rohloff belt drive question.

Thanks, I checked with the Gates website. There are only 2 options in 60T 5 bolt. One is regular, the other offset. Waiting for Zen to return the call an tell me if I need regular or offset. Then I need to find one.

Bafang to Rohloff belt drive question.

Good morning, sorry to be writing again as I thought this was pretty well resolved. In talking to the bike shop in Boise (120 miles away) that actually has the tools and experience with Gates belts and Rohloff, they made another suggestion. The tech suggested that I also consider changing the...

Bafang to Rohloff belt drive question.

Ravi, I am very satisfied with the 19t rear cog. It gives me (if I remember right) 2.89 which is close enough for me. I will be buying another 22t at some point just to have it in case I ever get into decent shape.😃 The people on this forum have great knowledge that they are willing to share.!

Bafang to Rohloff belt drive question.

I think the hardest part is going from a road bike averaging 22 mph and weighing about 20lbs to an E bike weighing close to 80lbs. But I will make a few changes that are more bike fit related and keep on riding. I can always go back to a 22 if needed.

Bafang to Rohloff belt drive question.

After a few conversations with Zen and Ravi, they were kind enough to offer swapping a 19 tooth sprocket for my 22 tooth. One of the questions that came up from the bike shop was whether the bike has a tensioning adjustment. The individual that called me back is the expert on that part of the...

Bafang to Rohloff belt drive question.

A couple of things, first I did find a bike shop that has experience in gates belts and rohloff axles. i did do a 20 mile ride averaging about 17+ mph on the flats in gear 14. I am not sure that moving that speed down around gear 11 is going to make it any harder to pedal, but it will allow me...

Bafang to Rohloff belt drive question.

This web site has some very knowledgeable and very helpful members. I am totally impressed. I think by changing the rear sprocket and riding on a regular basis this bike will certainly work out.

This option takes it to about 2.9 and that is great! I will send a note to Ravi and ask. Note sent to Ravi and Zen Sales.

Bafang to Rohloff belt drive question.

The 2.75 ratio is certainly better, but is it doable? With all the very low gears on the Rohloff and an available 1500watts I dont think climbing that hill will be an issue…it wont be a fast climb but will be doable. Ravi, what do your engineers say about the 55/20, 55/19 or 60/20 options?

How much does changing from 2.5 to 2.75 help? I can’t change your great spreadsheet on my little iPad. If we have to change the belt and rear sprocket, wouldn’t it make sense to change all three at the same time?

Bafang to Rohloff belt drive question.

Over the decades I have built and converted bikes to e-bikes so I am aware of what would be the cost and labor involved. That is why my first choice is to modify the 55/22 belt system. Ravi wants me to get the folks in his sales department involved to see what options are feasible given the...

Bafang to Rohloff belt drive question.

Ravi and I had a informative phone call. While Ravi was adamant about increasing cadence, at 78 years old I am not sure I will ever be able to maintain a cadence of 75 for hours at a time. I guess I have to accept that I am now an old fart and that my marathon days are over. I guess that...

I totally agree. I use the throttle very sparingl. It is great to get started when stopped going uphill. But now I will use it to shift rohloff gears going uphill! ❤️

Bafang to Rohloff belt drive question.

I was climbing up about a 35 degree hill and wanted to see how it would climb in g5, in retrospect I probably was putting pressure on the Rohloff. I havent had any issues with shifting and will use your sage advice next time I ride home. Yep, that darn hill is on the way to the house.

Bafang to Rohloff belt drive question.

I am shooting an email to Ravi. Originally I wanted the bike to come with a Sram 11 speed gear set but Ravi talked me out of it. I just took the bike out after 3 cups of coffee to see what it can do by pushing up the power. In g11=17mph, g12=18.x, g13=19.9 g14=21. Now this was at power level...

Bafang to Rohloff belt drive question.

While this certainly sounds like a great solution, I am a little worried that making this change will void my warrant. The trial period was only 10 miles and I have about 30 miles on the bike now. I will shoot a letter to the president of Zen bikes telling of my desire to go to a 20/60 set up...
