    2025 Vuelta a Espana

I think Pogi is becoming a bit bored. This season has been so incredibly successful, he doesn’t need this so will sit it out. He’s already said he has thought about retirement- let’s hope after 2 more successful TdF’s! what’s everyone’s pick for 2nd and 3rd here? (Vingogo obviously wins)! Also...

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

The BMC gets a few seconds at the end of this vid Which interestingly (for me!) also features the new, smaller but slower charger option for the HPR 40 as it’s nigh on impossible to take the huge 4a charger that comes with both the HPR 40 and the X20 on a bikepacking trip As there wouldn’t be...

I may have missed it in the thread, but did you see that BMC had an 8.5kg prototype with it at the Eurobike show? I’m wondering if Mahle will do more mid-motor development. They’ve already done Spesh’s, and recently released the M40 Emtb motor…but that TQ form factor is so easy to fit into...

No problem. I’ll ask TQ now, but my Canyon contact is out of office until mid next week.

I think my normal viewers would riot, Jeremy! I decided that a broad brush would be what the majority would want, if potentially fairly inaccurate. And really that suits me better too - even the research for this vid plus the filming and worse, editing took many hours over many days, and I work...

Thanks for that, just joined it. Nice that it’s possible to upgrade from the 50 to the 60. I ca’t think when a brand has done that before (pet hate of mine! These bikes are too expensive not to be able to upgrade in my opinion). Sorry about the fat/old/arthritic thing!

Darn. Good point! Still, at least we’re consistent despite our disparities 😀 I think I’ll need to point out my lack of any real science in my approach on the vids in future!

Thanks guys. Your support is much appreciated. You were actually all mentioned in the first version, but that one went 45minutes and I had to chop…sorry😔!

Unfortunately Stefan, my bike computer is too basic to establish e-bike fields, though I will now try to see if I can get a power reading from the bike. For the full review I’ll ask TQ about ANT+ connectivity. Thanks for that.

I didn’t, so very many thanks! Not really played with the app yet - I managed to drop my phone going over 90kmh and the bluetooth connections haven’t been great since, so its not something I look forward to! If I get stuck, can I ask for more help? I thought the same re. the cut outs, so...

Sorry, yes I set the maximum assist for each level based on what I use on my Orbea Gain, as it is familiar to me, but it varies up to that level dependent on rider input (and the balance between the two can also be preset, I assume the same as the Vado, as it was with the Mahle X20).

I don’t want to jump the gun, and as I mentioned my data will be unlike another tester, but I think as long as I ride similar routes to my X20 tests, the data should/could be relevant… And I think you mentioned your local hills are significant? It’s just that I very much struggled to maintain...

OK, thank you Mark. I can discount drawing any conclusions from that then. I’m hoping that the motor readings OUGHT to have some relevance…though in truth, what it FEELS like to ride with each system might be as useful as anything else to potential buyers, particularly in light of my...

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

Thank you. Obviously these were just initial thoughts. Things are very skewed for others looking at my data - despite various ails I’m fairly fit, but over 250lbs…but unfortunately I have good and bad days where I use more or less assist. At least there will be ride data for a minimum of 6...

Our chat was limited to the HPR40, ‘her baby’, I’m afraid.

Wow that is great stuff! I had a long phone call with the ‘40 Product Manager at TQ last week, trying to sort out those crazy claims of their customer services person, and one of the things I also wanted to check was whether they had addressed the derating that the HPR50 was known for. She said...

Again, just from press blurb, but TQ claim a system efficiency of 80% on the HPR50, and we know that the ‘40 has a few differences in the motor (like the lack of a second freewheel/clutch) so I guess that’s where the claimed additional 10% efficiency comes from. I’d love to know the real...

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

Officially it’s 90%. I’m still putting the data together from my rides, but it’s not seeming to be inefficient in terms of average meters gained per full charge compared to the Mahle, for example. I‘m likely to use meters gained/Wh to take into account the difference in battery capacity (290Wh...

My own bike has a hub motor, and I love the help it has given me these last years…but I am human and my head is getting turned by these fresh, young mid models! Yeah, it just has to be nonsense. The TQ motor is specifically designed to be run off as much as on. Think that techie might be in for...
